Default Multi-tracker and overwatch

Hi guys! I have a simple question for you and if you read the title you might already know what it is.

Q: Can a Tau suit of any sort with a multi-tracker fire two weapons when firing overwatch? The rules for multi-tracker says "fire an additional weapon each shooting phase" So does that mean they will only be allowed to fire one weapon in overwatch? beacuse that would suck.. :-/

Thank you in advance

AFAIK if you can do it in the shooting phase you can do it during Overwatch. Except psychic powers. But if you can shoot two weapons in the shooting phase you can shoot two weapons during Overwatch.

If this were a 5th Ed Codex I might be tempted to say that it does, however the new Codex is a 6th Ed one and the Multi-tracker rule simply says you can fire an extra weapon in each shooting phase.

So no Overwatch, it applies to shooting phase only.

in BRB does it not say overwatch is a shooting phase in the enemy assault phase?

"An Overwatch attack is resolved like a normal shooting attack (albeit one resolved in the enemy's Assault phase) and uses all the normal rules for range, line of sight, cover saves and so on." - Page 21 BRB

Nothing about it being a shooting phase.

Don't take my word on this, but in the 6th edition FAQ I'm pretty sure it said that Crisis Suits with multi-trackers could fire both weapons during overwatch.

Not sure if that needs to change with the new Tau Codex

New Codex, New FAQ.

Nothing in the old Codex or FAQ matters anymore. The wording on Multi-tracker has changed. The new Multi-tracker rule simply says you can fire an extra weapon in each shooting phase. Overwatch is not a shooting phase, so it does not work.

Thanks for the replies! I really hoped that someone could help me find a loophole somewhere so I could fire two weapons in overwatch, but I guess that's not gonna happen as of now. hopefully It'll be FAQed and let us fire in overwatch, but time will tell I suppose.

thank you for taking your time and answering my question

MC's can fire 2 weapons... you can fire 2 weapons due to multi-tracker -- I don't see the issue with it. As its resolved as a regular shooting attack, albeit assault phase, you should be fine shooting both as a MC does.
