Default So My Defence Line Give My Opponent A Cover Save Too?!?

I've just spend a 2 weeks building a defence line for my GK henchmen squads and yesterday I played a game with them for the first time. Now given the recent shooting rules my expendable models were at the front up against the barricades while my plasma gunners and weaponsmith were in the 2nd row behind them.
During that game I shot some enemy Terminators approaching the defence line and was shocked to be told that because 25% of the enemy models were obscured by the barricades they would get cover saves from my AP2 weapons!

So does my Defence Line really give my opponent a cover save too?!?

If it really is a two edged sword then I may have wasted my time building it as all my henchmen squads are equipped with AP2 weapons.

Yes LoS matters, the way to get around it is to position you big guns in a way that they can see thru the low spots. Cover is per model. You could also Focus Fire models that have less cover.

Most models' heads should be able to see over the defense line or through the armor slits. The line is meant to give them cover, blocking well over 25% of them but not the heads. Line of Sight is from the eyes, so the wall should not interfere. And while I don't have my book handy, I do believe models in base contact ignore walls when firing over them. It's sort of like being within 2 inches of the edge of a forest and firing out. You get cover but not the enemy.

The enemy won't be picking up a cover save from the second line guys. If you get your head down behind them you'll easily see that the enemy will be fully exposed to the guys behind the wall.

I'd point out too that you actually have to be behind a wall or barricade to get the cover save. Just firing across it isn't enough.

well it depends. if my model is behind the high part of the barricade then the enemy has a cover save. you should keep the firer close to the low part on the aegis. the high part conceals the most of the firer LoS, if he's in the 2nd rank

The game follows true line of sight. Bend down and look at eye level with your own men. Are the enemy models obscured by the line? Probably not.

The Defense line isnt like Area terrain and rules for shooting through terrain were removed. It is simply, if the model is obscured visibly it gets a cover save. Hard to believe his would if yours are significantly close to the wall and his far enough away.

It's a funny picture, imagining two squads playing a game of Whack-a-Mole across an Aegis defence line, each squad trying to duck and at the same time, shoot the guys just across the wall from them

They'd almost have to be Tau and Guard tho, otherwise one of them would have just launched an assault by then

The main way I can think of a 2nd line of guys having the wall give cover is if the ADL was set on a hill and the approaching models were below the wall.
