Default Tau Markerlights on Overwatch

Could someone please explain to me how Tau Markerlights interact with overwatch? Is the additional BS applied before or after bs is set to 1?

Marker lights give a +1 BS ?

In the order of precedence you do additions, multiplications then fixed so the BS would be +1 for the markerlight but then fixed value 1

"The (markerlight) counters remain until the end of the current Tau shooting phase or until used" page 29 Codex: Tau

Since overwatch is done in your opponents assault phase, you shouldn't have any markerlight counters on them anyway? Unless there was some form of FAQ that changed this and I missed it.

@Magpie_Oz

Yes they can, they can also remove cover saves and reduce leadership. + / - 1 for each counter expanded

Only way I could see markerlights being on the enemy in the assault phase is if you have them in your squad and are able to fire them during overwatch to give your unit +BS. However they would be still fired at BS1 and unless it was a marker drone I would see it as a wasted shot, compared to the S5 gun you could shoot instead.

It would also have to be a Networked Marker Light. But still wouldn't benefit due to the new order of adjustments rules.

With all the shooting happening at the same time how could the Markerlight benefit the squad anyways? It's not like a different squad is shooting and marking the assaulting unit, then the second squad is using the bonus from the Markerlight.

A Networked Marker Light is useable by the unit it's in.

A Networked Markerlight is resolved before the rest of the unit's shooting attack, and that unit can make use of the Markerlight counters generated this way.

"Trying to make some sense of it all,
When I can see it makes no sense at all"

"Fools to the left of me,
Jokers to the right,
Here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you."

So if it hits on that 6+ you could claim all the other shots that occur at the same time could hit on a 5+?

Somehow that doesn't sound right. Then again Tau where always able to pay to break rules all over the place so I'm not too surprised I guess.
