Default Sternguard Special Ammo

Sternguard are able to take Storm Bolters as an upgrade for there boltguns, does special ammo work with the Storm Bolter too? Im pretty sure it doesn't since under the special ammo entry says replace boltgun profile with the following but a Storm Bolter are described as two boltgun put together. Just wonder because I got a 1k Kantor list I play some times and if Storm Bolter can use special ammo thinking of redoing Kantor's Sternguard unit with Storm Bolter so they can shoot and assault since Kantor wrist bolter is an assault type weapon.

The SB does not count for the purpose of Special Ammo.

even if the special ammo did work with the storm bolter keep in mind that each ammo changes the shooting profile of the gun. Notice that each entry says "rapid fire"...

Figured as much just making sure been more then a few times I do decent killings in Shooting with my Sternguard but can't go for the death blow because of weapon type Rapid Fire on it in Assault. Was thinking by having the Storm Bolter I could just choice to use it profile instead of using Special Ammo so I can use its Assault Weapon type on turns I know I can move shoot and be in range to assault a unit or should a unit fall short of trying charge perfect setup for that. Hmm guess I could drop one combi melta for a flamer to help thin the numbers of any unit that gets close, thanks for confirmation.

Yeah, they're great for tearing things up with shooting, but they can't assault to finish off the target. Just something you kind of have to put up with for having crazy good ammo.

Right now I run two 5 man Sternguard with Razorback in my Kantor list, they normally move forward and are my first line of defense/shooting. Since Sternguard are scoring unit try to keep the battle stuck in mid field around an objective or two since my army is Shooting base to get as many shooting turns I can.

the thing that always threw me with sternguard is the lack of hellfire shells if you take the heavy bolter option. scouts get that but sternguard don't. random
