Default Empyrean Brain Mines and Psykout Grenades

If a unit equipped with psykout grenades launches an assault, any demons or psykers in the assaulted unit are reduced to initiative 1. If a character is carrying Empyrean Brain Mines and is in base contact with any of those psykers/Demons, is the Initiative test for the Mines taken on Int 1, or on the target's normal initiative?

ooooh nasty, the way I read it you would test against the now reduced Init.

You could look at it that the Brain mines are resolved before any blows might mean that the Grenades haven't been "used" yet but I'd not agree with that.

what would happen if that model had something like a banshee mask which makes you initiative 10?

Matt Ward declared death pit on the Eldar god Khaine. To celebrate his victory he held the most awesome party ever and all the Eldar were invited. The intense pleasure from the orgy with him spawned Slannesh, created the Eye of Terror and destroyed the Eldar empire. Their last words were, "worth it."
So spread the word, and beware of Matt Ward for he can Death Pit at any time.

Well nothing with a banshee mask is either a psyker or daemon... but if they were then you would roll off to see if psych-out grenades or banshee mask took priority.

This happens anytime 2 special rules or items conflict- such as the SW wolf tooth necklace (hit on 3+) and that DE item that only lets you hit on a 6+... can't both work and neither has priority... so you dice off to see which works each turn.

Looking at my OP, I really should have just asked: Are Initiative tests always taken on the unaltered Initiative value of the target model, or are abilities and effects that momentarily affect the initiative value taken into account?

I' say it would work because Psychout grenades specify they are reduced for rest of the phase and the mines work after the assault is initiated.

Strange, but not a Stranger.

Ok, I might actually start taking Brain Mines in some of my lists then, maybe in combination with psykotroke grenades, thank you for clearing that up
