Word Bearer Question and Idea

Hello everyone!

I currently have a 1500+ point Word Bearer army. I keep reading how they don't tend to get along with many other legions. I also read that they make extensive use of daemon shock troops.

What I was thinking was would it be cool/legal to use deamon models in the place of cult troops (Bloodletters for Berserkers, Horrors for Thousand Sons, etc.) since 4th ed nerffed the heck out of daemons.

I was thinking this would keep my army fluffy while allowing me to use the entirety of the chaos codex. As for summoned deamons I would use furies or something.

I'm out of my depth here, but when you're only required to take two Troops choices to begin with it would seem a shame to not use them to get Chaos Space Marines. The Word Bearers use daemons, sure, but their core are religiously fanatical Legionnaires from ten thousand years ago.

A minimalist approach would have you only spend 150-200 points on those guys, with perhaps another 100-150 on your HQ choice... leaving over 1300 pts (or more) to buy as many daemonic-themed things as you wish. And let's face it... with 5E rules being what they are, that could be a shit-load of daemons.

Personally, I think w/ Word Bearers a nice balance is optimal. Their novel-based fluff has them using everything from Cult Terminator squads to Possessed Marines, daemonic vehicles, "normal" Chaos Space Marines, daemons, etc. I'd go with a bit of everything... one of each (of the above) and a handful of daemons.

I have plenty of plain chaos marines. I have 3 squads of 10. I was just wanting to fill out the rest of the troop choices with some of the other troop options presented in the codex while staying fluffy.

Sounds like a good plan.

Which models are what is fairly clear; as long a optional war-gear was indicated somehow, I would certainly not object to playing such an army

Oh.

If you're using 5E, though, that's not an issue. Daemons don't count against your organizational structure.

Unless I'm flat out wrong, as long as you have 1 HQ and 2 Troops (which you do), you can purchase daemons to your heart's content (well, to the point limit) without worrying about them being Troops or whatever... because they don't count against anything.

Clarification: the above was intended for the OP.

I think the OP is talking about using the lesser deamon models as proxies for the cult spacemarines of the same power (ie these bloodletters count as bezerkers)

I wouldnt have a problem with it either as long as you were clear at the start of the game and didnt use the same type of figure as lesser daemons.
