Default Leviathan R'lyeh, Cthulhu ftaghn! (A thought on Tyranids.)

I was just wondering. Is anyone else seeing a similarity between:

++ The "Other Gods" of H.P. Lovecraft's work (strange, alien and unknowable beings of immeasurable power, lurking in the vastness of space, awaiting the call to devour all life... whose minions summon them out of maddness, often after learning of their existence, simply in the hope that they will be granted a swift death before the terror of the world's end sets in...)

++And the Tyranids of WH40k (who are strange, alien hive fleets with unknowable "minds", who were allegedly called to our galaxy by the birthscream of Slaanesh, but who also are drawn to specific planets by way of genestealer cults, who both act as a beacon and disrupt the defensive strategies of the planet... whose followers are motivated by the hope of being re-joined into the hive (devoured)...)

...or is it just me?

I'd rather correlate them to the Chaos and the Warp. I mean, Azathoth, their lord who dwells in distant, far dimensions, is also called "The Blind Idiot God, Seething Nuclear Chaos, The Daemon Sultan." He appears as a shapeless, swirling mass. Is this very 'Nid like, or more chaotic?

And then the Daemonic Herald--I mean, the messenger--of the Outer Gods, Nyarlathotep, is called "The Crawling Chaos, Messenger to Azathoth, The Three-Lobed Burning Eye."

Shub-Niggurath? "The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young." Beastman patron much?

Yog-Sothoth? "The Beyond One, Opener of the Way, The Key." Appears as multi-colored bubbles. Rather Tzeentchi, no?

CSM Plog, Tactica

What sphinx of plascrete and adamantium bashed open their skulls and ate up their brains and imagination? Imperator! Imperator!

Ive always liked the reference to 'the Necronomicon': "According to the Necronomicon the Earth was once ruled by the Old Ones, powerful beings from other worlds or other dimensions"

Not really a straight transfer of IP to the Necrons/ Old Ones, but hey, its interesting to see these references in literature.

Actually, genestealers are engineered with a strong survival instinct, which causes them to flee outward, away from the Hive Fleets. The summoning of the Hive Fleets is an involuntary action caused by their increased numbers over several generations.

Ymgarl Stealers seek to rejoin, but are left behind because their flesh and DNA are tainted or unstable in some way.

Ironic, those who wish to flee are reabsorbed, and those that wish to be reabsorbed are left behind.
