Phalanx (Spoilers)

I just got to the battle of the Emperors Palace in The Collected VisionIt's says that the Phalanx got shot down during the battle, but I thought that the Imperial Fists currently use it as their mobile Fortress Monastery.

Have I got something wrong?

Either that, or this 'Sky Fortress' that the CV references isn't actually the Phalanx.

It's possible that they just made another fortress-monestary and named it Phalanx in honor of the one lost.

The Phalanx is the size of a small moon, isn't it? I can't see anything that size swanning around in the Terran atmosphere without causing more problems than the invasion ever could.

There's a substantial historical president for the Imperium taking the destroyed remnants of starships and rebuilding them from the scraps in order to salvage archeotech. I can hardly see them not rebuilding something as prominent as the Phalanx.

If memeory serves though said sky fortress detonates like a massive nuclear weapons akin to a miniture star exploding or something are the words used. Can't see much being salvageable after that. I don't think it ever specifically calls it Phalanx, but i'm sure it says the 'Imperial Fists sky fortress' which does sound like Phalanx. And Phalanx to me seems like one of those one off creations, hell Dorn had it before the Emperor found him didn't he? And again its huge, like GFP said i could see it causing more problems than it solved parked over the palace

It's physically impossible for it to be the Phalanx even disregarding GFP's rather logical statement about it not being able to operate in the atmosphere.

The crater the Sky Fortress causes when it crashes into the middle of the traitor horde is 3km across, i'm sorry but the largest space going vessel the Imperium has is far larger than 3km across.

One has to wonder how much of it was disintegrated or made unsalvageable uncontrolled atmospheric re-entry.

Well the Phalanx is the Fortress Monastary for the Imperial Fists to this day so even if it was heavily damaged during the Heresy it certainly wasn't wrecked.

Plus Collected Visions says that it was the vessel's Plasma Reactors that aided in causing the 3km crater- would you seriously believe that the sort of reactors a small moon sized vessel would have, would only cause a 3km crater?

It's far more likely that there was a much small inter-atmosphere craft operated by the Imperial Fists on Terra called the Sky Fortress.
