Default Legion of the Damned= lost Legion

Well, i was thinking about the LotD and i thought, hmm, is it possible that they are one of the lost legions from the time of the great crusade, having perished in a terrible accident or under terrible circumstances, given life again to fight the enemies of the imperium. what does everyone else think of this

Its most likely that the Legion of the Damned is actually made up of the remnants of the Fire Hawks Chapter, this has always been the case I believe.

Yup, as CotE says, they are most commonly believed to be the remnants of the Fire Hawks chapter. There are a few other theories I think but I think the best one is that they are the Marines killed on Istvaan, loyalists from the traitor legions returned.
That is just a theory though, I don't think there is anything to back it up at all.

id hazard a guess as to all space marines lost in the warp could turn out to join up and be the legion of damned. i think its reported about 13 chapetrs or so were lost in the warp in the 41 millenium so there is a good chance if the emperor is able to influence their survival in some way then they could rid themselves of their original chapter markings and take on another armor design.

Supposedly the LotD are the remnants of the Fire Hawks chapter that was lost to the warp. I guess the warp changed them in such a way to give them the ability and apperance of vengeful ghosts. Its also rumored LotD are the ghosts of long dead SM heroes given form again by the Emperor himself. And yes they "ghost out" once there job is done.
