Default The passing of time in 40k

Does anyone here know what game year it was when W40k first started? In 5th edition it's 999 m41, I was wondering if they progress the timeline a few centuries every new edition?

I don't think 40k advances with each edition, it just comes closer to 41K with each passing year. Not much help I know, but its better than a slap in the face (but that is entirely dependent on circumstance).

I dont think they will go any farther in time, just fill in a lot more details in the 40th millenium (as you do)

According to an old Index Astartes article, M... 987 was the year it was published. They do try to keep the 'date' current.

Hey! Where'd ... Everybody ... go?
