Default New lost legions bits from B&C

The Lost Legions, Inferno info - + AGE OF DARKNESS + - The Bolter and Chainsword

Saw this intriguing discussion over on B&C, that paid note to a stunning blurb from Inferno about the Rangdan Xenocides.

"Whole Expeditionary fleets went
to their deaths without a single survivor,
worlds were laid waste, dozens of Titan
Legions were obliterated and by the end,
entire Space Marine Legions [REDACTED
SECTION] lost to the Imperium.
Much of
what happened during this abyssal conflict is
still locked under seal, but what can be said
is that with the breaking of the Labyrinth
of Night by the Emperor, the threat was at
last stymied."

Beyond intriguing, given the secretive nature of just what which happened during the mystery conflict. But it definitely seems like GW is building up this particular conflict. The Dark Angels used to be the premier legion until the Rangdan Xenocides, taking such bad losses that the Ultramarines soon eclipsed them in stature.

It still doesn't explain why the statues of the two lost primarch were removed from that garden in the Imperial Palace. Even years into the Heresy the traitors' statues were only covered in cloth. That might lead you to believe that they did something far worse than merely attempt to overthrow the Emperor of Mankind.

Would losing your legion to an obviously hugely powerful enemy be that something? I don't think so.

We dont know the nature of the Rangdan Xenos yet. But is that farfetched to believe theyve been able to corrupt or psychically dominate the armies sent their way? Just look at the Enslavers and the Storm Wardens, forced by the inquisition to inter their infected brethren and erase all records of them.
Storm Wardens | Warhammer 40k | Fandom powered by Wikia

Imagine a primarch, or even two with their legions, succumbed to alien domination and made to fight their brother legions. Now that would be something the Imperium would want to scour all records of, as it would be extremely damaging to morale and the fledgling imperium. Especially so if the dominated legions had managed to cause terrfic damage before they were bought to heel.

And the blurb states it took the intervention of the Emperor himself to end the Rangdan threat.

Edit:
Though. The Labyrinth of Night? We have the Noctis Labyrinth on Mars. Could the Rangdan possibly have been an early and quite LARGE Necron dynasty? Some necrons has been said to be awake during the Great Crusade and the Silent King claimed to have met Sanguinius. And the Necrons have mind shackle scarabs that works even on Astartes as seen in Damnos.

Losing two legions and their primarchs may have been tragic enough in the context of that time period to justify their statues being removed. At that point it was probably inconceivable that primarchs would ever turn traitor, but having primarchs die was a tragedy worthy of note. Worthy of the symbolic removal of their statues from among the ranks of their brothers.

The other statues simply being covered isn't necessarily an indication that the circumstances were somehow less significant. The Emperor himself is credited with expunging the two missing from records, it is possible it happened at a time when such a thing could still be hidden from the greater Imperium, while the later transgressions during the Horus Heresy could not be so easily buried.
