I seem to remember you could use squats in an imperial guard army once. I also have a vague memory of chaos squat models.
I think they could be brought back in a limited form as part of a IG army again, as an elite choice or something. Possibly as survivors of the Tyranid attack who are now elite Nid hunters due to there experience? Could be a good way of floating the idea of Squats again and see how they take.

I personally would like them to be in 40K, but in my mind they shouldn't be a part of the Imperium any more. Those traitors didn't help enough during the nids invasion and will have to pay or that.

There are a few problems though.
- Squats (or dwarfs) are normally slow moving, but hard as nails. How will we put this in the game without making them mini marines. I'll start brainstorming on the Space dwarve thread if you need me.

Joost.

Probably been mentioned a lot before, but Demiurg anyone? I think they're the best bet for 40K dwarves to return, perhaps taking up a similar role as the Kroot.

There are a few problems made by GW that will make de return of squats difficult.

The first reason is that the heavy shooter army reward has gone to the Tau.

Another problem is that they where a part of the emperium in the beginning and are now viewed as abhumans. also a large part of there weapons has gone to the imperial guard and space marines.

I read some ideas as for using the Necron stats and rules and while it does fit the theme I would like them to have something unique.

Well, off topic to what you said I think there should be both Demriug and Squats, you know spice it up with some variation....

They could suceed from the Imperium, it could start a whole new set of faction succetionists that could be used as like rebel armies and stuff. They could also mix up their shooting thing and make them more diff and unique. What though...i don't know yet I can't help that way cuz I don't work at GW....
