I've only really been exposed to a few of the characters. The Khorne World Eater berserker was meh. Like "How many cliches can be stick in here?"

And the apothecary and Brant are so wordy!

"'By all that is holy,' Brant swore, 'not one of these blasphemous alien scum shall escape my wrath and the wrath of the Emperor for the wrong they have done our glorious Chapter this day!' He slammed his gauntleted fist down on top of the command-pulpit at which he stood, cracking the carved granite lintel. 'I swear it in the Emperor's name, in the name of our patriarch Rogal Dom and in the most venerated name of Lord Sigismund! Every one of them will die and burn in the fiery hell of our vengeance!'"

That hurts my brain.

And I'm not convinced that Brother Jarold's situation is all that critical. All he did was lose his lower body. His larraman cells should have staunched the bleeding long ago. Plus his Catalepsean Node should have put him in a coma. If not, then the apothecary should have been able to activate it.

Failing that, they probably could have dragged him into a stasis field in order to buy time to prepare whatever necessary operations would be needed. Bionics, probably.

I hate when they make Space Marines so frail.

I'll read more tomorrow.

You hate it when they make Space Marines frail?

Lol.

Have you ever played a game of 40k?

Seriously, if they died in fluff as easily as they died in game the Empire would have been overrun centuries ago.

Compare fluff-ish... marines should cost more points and have higher wounds. They are not necessarily faster then any other unit, but they are tougher with tough armour.

Take tyranids in fluff. They cut right through marine armour, they die pretty quick but they kill marines just the same.

Could you imagine marines 20 pts each with 2 wounds. That nearly doubles their survivability rate.

Just as nids would be neigh unstoppable with av 2 scything talon.

In the end you really just need grots, millions of grots.

That's quite interesting. Usually you'd see people complaining that astartes are overpowered in every single bolter porn novella. Things like killing off hundreds of Dark Eldars waiting in ambush in a superior position ( many of which were wytches ) while having barely 10 men out of their terminator armour ( Nick Kyme - Fire Drake ) Granted, they were technically veterans of 1st company so I guess it could pass. Still tho, losing a single brother and having one badly wounded is hardly what I would call " believable " Astartes are Emperor's finest, but they are NOT that fine.

I liked the Book aside the cliche Black templar speeches. It's good to see Orks stomping Astartes. Oh and GodKilla was amazing.

The combat capabilities an Space Marines are a different beast. Can X Space marines beat Y Xenos. Maybe, maybe not.

But it's the degree of damage the Space Marines can take that leave me rolling my eyes most of the time. They break so easily, normally.

I did a quick Google, and the leading cause of preventable deaths for US servicemen in the Middle East has been blood loss.

"The study showed that uncontrolled blood loss was the leading cause of death in 90 percent of the potentially survivable battlefield cases and in 80 percent of those who died in a military treatment facility."

Nothing short of near-complete destruction of the torso or a headshot should stop a Space Marine for long.
