Default How feasible is the imperium?

This has probs been asked before, but hey
How possible do you think the imperium tech actually is, okay, let's give them the benefit of the dought on the warp and chaos gods and the like.
But could the bolter exist? Could power armour work? Could you acually make and astartes? Or even a primarch? Assuming the materials such as adamintine are just alloys or something we just haven't made yet.
And even, could we do any of it now?
I know we have basic exo skelentons now, but if the boys in White coats put there minds to it, could we strap some armour to it?
Could we build a bolter? Man portable or not
Could we build a cyber netic implant
Could we even build a battle barge if we put our minds to it?
Could we even have a fictional droppod? Or a dreadnought or a sentinel?
What about a chain sword? This one sounds easy, but is it?

ETC
If this goes well, I might ones for other armies like tau or orks

I don't know about how feasible the Imperium's tech is when viewed compared to what we have today, but they do have 28 millenniums, give or take some dark age periods, to perfect and discover entirely new things. So, it's not completely out of the question, at least from what I know. Not to mention all the innovations psyker presence could entail.

As for the orks you mentioned- absolutely not. Just about all of their 'technology' is completely ramshackle, makes no scientific sense, and would break down or explode in their hands if not for their unique psychic phenomenon.

My 2 cents.

I don't think power armour is necessarily too far fetched. The technology to power it and the many servos that propell it, as well as the body-interface and HUD probably exists across various instruments and companies today, but in a very unrefined state. Look at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Glass
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prosthetic_hand
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emotiv
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceramic_armour

A bolter is essentially a refined AGL with rocket propelled grenades:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mk_19_grenade_launcher

Having said that, there are some elements of 40k that just boggle current physics, such as the inertial force acting on Drop Pods and the astrophysics and engineering that go into Battle Barges and the 40k air/space craft.

Okay, well give the aero dynamics the benefit of the doubt
But what about the plasma weaponary? Could you even have something that small that can make plasma?

Hmmmmm that, I think, is a question for a real engineer, not a pretendgineer like me.

plasma weaponry is really feasible if you look at the basic mechanics, but just not efficient enough. In today's society there is no need for plasma or bolter weaponry since they are excessive for killing humans. Plasma is also anoying to make because we dont have a cheap material that can contain the heat needed for Plasma.

Feel free to question or confirm any of the imperiums tech, from boarding torpedoes to the air recycling thingy in power armour to the geneseed itself

Bolters seems really simple and straightforward, just a super-sized Ak-47 that shoots mini-rockets.

Entirely impossible since we are going to wipe ourselves out in a few years.

Exactly the point. I love it when people say, "well, science hasn't X, so obviously there's no answer." Technologically, we're only 200 - 300 years away from the foundation of most modern technology and the modern scientific process is less than 150 years old. Some of the tech in 40K is pretty wierd, so to me the question is not what is possible, but why did humanity stop at that particular tech? Considering the modern concept of the computer was created 60 years ago, I find it pretty striking it takes another potentially millennium to develop AI on the order of the Men of Iron.

The White Zone is for loading and unloading only. If you have to load, or if you have to unload, go to the White Zone. You'll love it... it's a way of life.

Nick Naylor: Cigarettes in space?
Jeff Megall: It's the final frontier, Nick.
Nick Naylor: But wouldn't they blow up in an all oxygen environment?
Jeff Megall: Probably. But it's an easy fix. One line of dialogue. 'Thank God we invented the... you know, whatever device.'
