To my everlasting disgust, it is the Space Marines.

I don't mind experienced players doing them, but sooooooo many newbes do them just cause they're too lazy to play something a bit more challenging.

I do SM only because I think they are awesome. I love the fluff behind them. My next army will be orks though.

Orks.

They're the reason I play the game.

Drunken wild-firing hard-fighting psychotic combat junkie nutjobs with insane steampunk influenced weapons that have no business working.

What's not to love?

Do you really think this is true?

Surely, being new, they don't know what's challenging and what's not? How can they know these things without experience?

I would think that the main reasons 'newbes' play marines are that they've been in every (?) one of the starter sets, the range for them is vast and substantially plastic, they have 4 codices, they are constantly marketed by GW in a way DE, WH and Necrons for instance really aren't, their fluff is awesomely OTT (genetically enhanced super-Nazi gothic warrior monks), they're easy to paint, you can do them how you like (one colour, or decked out like a medieval knight) and they're so much easier than any other army to understand (except IG, who let's face it are quite dull).

All of these I think are much more compelling reasons than 'laziness'.

It was a tough choice but I had to go with space marines just becuase they are so easy to convert and make your own chapter with.

I voted Orks, obviously, but at the moment, I'm playing with my SMs (both Codex and BA), and Chaos more than my Orks. And I've haven't touched my Eldar in ages... so in a way, what does 'favourite' mean? At the moment, the ones I 'favour' most are SMs, but that ain't what I voted for, because in the end I'll go back to my Orks, because they make me laugh. I have more fun with Orks than my other armies (not allowed to laugh at Blood Angels, no, they're terribly serious... )

Chaos for me. Where else can you get blood crazed nutters, sensation addicted noise marines, walking suits of armour and general badass in one army.

Orks mate, except the sensation addicted noise marines, but saying "marines, where else can you get marines?" is a bit prejudicial I reckon.

You can get all sorts of other addicts with orks, and I see no reason why you couldn't fix up a ghetto-blasta on a wartrukk...
