Default Horus losing it?

SPOILERS FOR FEAR TO TREAD!!!!

ok, I have just finished Fear to Tread and I can say I loved it; very entertaining!

I did notice though that Horus is playing his own games and tried to have Sanguinius killed rather than turned, to head off a potential rival.

Basically my question is, is this simple paranoia on the part of Horus or do we think his exposure to Chaos is twisting his judgement even further, because even the Chaos Gods don't want to win outright (based on the Cabal's warnings to Alpharius/Omegon)

I am not exactly sure what your asking. So I apologize if my answer does not help. I think it could have a lot to do with the fact Sanguinous will not join him. and Horus probably knows this as a fact. Even though he offers him a last chance to join him before their battle. He want's Sanguinous gone because he is to utterly loyal to the Emperor and too much of a threat to leave alive.
So I do think he is paranoid(more afraid) of allowing the Blood Angels Primarch to live and fight against him.
Afterall it is mentioned that he is one of the only Primarchs who the other Primarch's believe could have been WarMaster (I can find a source on that somewhere im sure...)

Sorry if my question wasn't clear

ok ill try again; Horus actively went against the 'prescribed' plan and tried to have Sang killed rather than turned as Erebus wanted. To me this suggests 2 reasons;

1. That as you say Apostle, he wanted to rid himself of a rival which suggests he is thinking of after the heresy and power struggles,

2. that he is being manipulated by chaos in order to bring about the outcome of the heresy that is more preferable to chaos i.e. the current 40k setting.

I just find it hard to believe that this supposed tactical genius (the best of the primarchs etc etc) is sabotaging the chances of his ultimate victory because he thinks his brother could be more popular

I gotcha now! haha. I do actually think it's because Horus has a fear (maybe even subconsiously.) That if Sang is turned, he may become more powerful than him, as without Chaos powering Horus, it is arguable that Sanguinous could possibly best him in combat. Maybe he does not wish for Sanguinous to become more chosen and have his power increased by Chaos. Though that just doesnt hit the spot for me... It's more likely that he just knows his brother will follow the Emperor and not him. He wants to believe otherwise but knows he is probably the least likely to truly follow Horus against the Emperor. (As IMO Sang is close to Dorn's diamond hard loyalty to the Emperor)
