Default When the ruinous powers combine..

So I was thinking about this 'Great Game', the gods of chaos seems to be playing...

I was wondering how often the gods unite, and for what cause? When does the game affect the material realm in a major way?

I'm thinking The Emperor was stopped by all four powers combining, and the Black Crusades has been made up of daemons of all four gods and Abbadon has the blessings of all four gods.

It's a really rare occasion and I'm wondering why the Chaos Gods would even unite in the first place?

Seems more like a Waaagh then a game where the players try to eliminate each other..

This pretty much sums it up:

Then the Four work as one for a while, but as soon as their objective is achieved, the eternal struggle resumes.

For Mankind, the most significant occasion of this type was the rise of the Emperor... Other events have led to brief cessation of conflict in the Realm of Chaos: particularly promising Black Crusades by Daemon Princes or Chaos Space Marine warlords; the extermination or birth of a new race; the rise of a new being. Such interest in mortal affairs is fleeting at best, and treaties between the gods do not last long. One god or another, or all four, eventually oversteps the bounds of the agreement and attempts to usurp his fellow gods. Once again the Realm of Chaos thunders to the march of armies and the roar of clashing gods.
