Personally, I found the appeal of both Helsreach and Legion of the Damned to be something completely different from the plot.

Both the above books had rich, colorful character moments, absolutely brilliant ideas at times, not to mention a great number of scenes that made me say 'Hey, that's fucking awesome'

Anyway, I digress. Fall of Damnos is a solid book, and one that I honestly liked. Its main selling point is the portrayal of the internal political struggle of the Chapter, coupled with credible characters that don't come across as flawless. Another thing I remember fondly is the author's perspective on Necrons, which was innovative at the time (while not actually contradicting any of the established background), and certainly eased my transition to the new 'cron fluff...
