On Fox (Aus) it starts on SciFi on October 9th (Friday week) at 8:30pm with the pilot (replayed at 4:20pm on the 10th) then it will basically be weekly, with that week's episode played ad nauseum during the week (and if you have an iQ box, it will probably be on "on demand" as well.

We already have it cued up to record (the iQ won't let us mark stuff for recording more than 7 days out from its EPG, but the foxtel online epg lets us go 14 days. Remote record ftw.)

Hey! Where'd ... Everybody ... go?

Ive never watched Stargate before. But seeing the adverts for this I think I shall be watching it until Sons Of Anarchy returns

Nyctophobia- Fear of the Dark Angel.

"No one ever spoke about of those two absent brothers. Their separate tragedies had seemed like aberrations. Had they, in fact, been warnings that no one had heeded?"

'Killing a man is like fucking, boy, only instead of giving life you take it. You experience the ecstasy of penetration as your warhead enters the enemy's belly and the shaft follows. You see the whites of his eyes roll inside the sockets of his helmet. You feel his knees give way beneath him and the weight of his faltering flesh draw down the point of your spear. Are you picturing this?'
'Yes, lord.'
'Is your dick hard yet?'
'No, lord.'
''What? You've got your spear in a man's guts and your dog isn't stiff? What are you, a woman?'

So it's not gonna be on channel 7 like SG1 and Atlantis were? That's a bummer, as I can't afford Foxtel.

Just caught the first two hours of SG:U (Gotta love being in Canada where they film most of the series), and I was pleasantly surprised; I was anticipating a version of BSG, but this series stays true to the Stargate spirit. It IS dark, but retains that SG humour. And who can fault them for having cameos for O'Neil, Carter, and Jackson?

The new "crew" seems to hold up well, and the most annoying character gets killed off in a "heroic" fashion. The FX keep getting better and better; Hell, they even blow up a planet "right pretty"...

Best part? You don't have to be a fan of the earlier series to "get" this one; It basically starts fresh, and doesn't club the new viewer with reams of backstory from previous shows. BUT if you've watched SG1 and Atlantis, this will fit in nicely.

I'm not sure how I feel about it.

It really seems like they;re trying to copy Galactica. There's WAY more focus on interpersonal drama (rather than the normal stargate formula of external drama, with character interactions providing the comedy and heartwarming elements), and sex...seriously, in 18 combined seasons of the other two 'gates' I can;t remember a single full on grunting sex scene, but SGU managed to squeeze one utterly superfluous one into the first episode. I'm not against sex, it's just that it felt really out of character for stargate.

I plan to keep watching it to see how it turns out, but I'm afraid it's going to end up as a bad galactica knockoff rather than a good SG spinoff.

I'm in the same ballpark as Galahad on this one. I love sci-fi, but I just hate Stargate. The movie was alright, but I could never get in to the series. After SG1 it just seemed like they began running out of ideas.

SG1 = Zzzzz....
Atlantis = Deep Space 9
SGU = Battlestar Galactica

Such is my opinion. It is a very interesting universe, but I couldn't disagree more with how they portrayed and implemented it on to the TV. I just think it could of been so much more.

Saw the Pilot and it does seem to be a new Galactica. The only thing i felt was missing was someone saying Frack every couple of minutes.

@Tu_Shan: your best bet will be to wait for the dvd release then (it will happen). I gave up watching SG on FTA tv due to them screwing the timeslot around so much (I just bought the dvds instead).

Galactica Shmacktica. This is a ripoff of Star Trek: Voyager if anything.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

Saw the first episode... was very happy with the heroic death, was dreading him being in the whole series.

Not sure what to make of the Robert Carlisle character but I did like Eli (even though I might change my mind quite shortly if they dont give him a little more depth of character beond 'smart & goofy'). I think that this might be quite a good series as long as the writers get the format right- fix the ship too fast or not at all and the show will probably be boring (either nothing happenning or it being 'unbelievably fast).

Im just expecting the old stargate sillyness to come back- meet unkillable enemy... ... learn about enemy ... ... get experience ... ... kill enemy in droves
- seriously, if someone averages out the amount of bullets needed to kill a jaffa in the 1st series of SG1 to how many were used in series 4+ I bet there's about a 50* reduction
