Well, it finally came out, and I went to see it. I liked it, but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting. I was suprised by how little the Basterds themselves were in the film, and how half the squad is completely written off and forgotten by the end of the movie. I also thought that "Story A and Story B" didn't really gel together all that well, like something else was missing.
However, it wasn't nearly as violent as I'd feared. I'm not into "Torture Porn" movies like Hostel, and since Eli Roth was in it, I had feared that IB would venture into this direction. I was glad to see that it did not.
I thought the opening scene and dialogue where we are first intorduced to Hans Landa was freaking awesome, though. I really liked the clever use of language for the audience's benefit, and the storyline reason for the switches. In fact, I thought Christopher Waltz's entire performance as Landa was incredible. I hope he gets an Oscar nod or something for it.
I also thought the climax of the film
Oh, and I was pleasantly suprised by the cameos of a couple of Tarantino's staples.
Another movie that I'm glad I saw on the big screen.
Has anyone else seen it? What are your thoughts?
