Default Weird Westerns and non-Western Westerns

my group of gaming buddies play a lot of Legends of the Old West (or just 'cowboys' as we tend to call it). we particularly like to make film references with our games and so base a lot of the characters and scenarios off famous movies. but we've played it rather a lot and are wanting to expand the game with some of our own rules.

i'm going to write rules, scenarios and campaign rules for two seperate settings, but i need you guys to help me find some inspiration for them:

the first is a Weird West campaign, that is going to feature a crazy mish mash of Sci-Fi, fantasy and the supernatural alongside the 'mundane' world of cowboys. i've already come up with a couple of ideas for scenarios:

- inspired by Valley of Gwangi and Tremors 4 Cowboy posses must escape from a cut of valley where prehistoric creatures still roam, but are trapped between a mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex and a mysterious Graboid.

- inspired by Wild Wild West a tyrannical villain has created a armour-plated, steam-power horseless carriage that move around on mechanical spider legs. cowboy posses must destroy it before he destroys them.

- inspired by The Outpost (not even slightly a Western, i know) cowboys posses enter an abandoned gold mine to loot it for treasure, only to find that the gold is guarded by confererate troops from the civil war, cursed by Indians to undeath.

the second is a 'World West' campaign, where we'll be giving the chance to fight with posses from (and in) far flung parts of the world. America was, of course, only one place in which such frontiers were fought over by settlers, farmers and soldiers. similar settings could be:

- inspired by River Queen the lush, sub-tropical lands of New Zealand were bitterly fought over by British soldiers and Moari natives, with less than innocent settlers trapped in the middle.

- inspired by Dynamite Warrior as Thailand's population began to boom during its industrialisation, there was greater and greater need for rice and meat to feed hungry mouths. buffalo herders, rustlers and soldiers were all known to clash in this tumultuous time.

can anyone else think of movies that would fit into either of those themes?

inspired by River Queen... Have you seen the film Utu? It's about Maori guerillas fighting a campaign against the English in the late 1800's. You may not get much scenario from this movie but the imagery is rich - I always remember the militia guys wearing looted English uniforms but still wielding tribal clubs along with pistols and other trophies.
The weirdest (most challenging) western I think I've seen was El Topo (the mole) a film by writer/ director and all round lover of life Alejandro Jodorowski. The hero must travel the west and defeat the four gun masters... The rest is well, just see it!
Good luck with the campaign!
