I can't really state a favourite as i only have a limited field to pick from, there's a mass of stuff i haven't got around to watching.

However, stuff i've rather enjoyed would be :

Berserk (hello lovely giant swords)

I quite liked the street fighter 2 anime as well, though this may be in reflection to the terrible job they did with the film.

Akira, Nausica and the Valley of the Wind, Samurai Champloo.

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away;
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.
You better watch out
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan, and I have seen
Things are not what they seem.

The only series I've ever watched in depth is Bleach (right up to current, and still watching every week) and Death Note...

Until they Kill L. Which is simultaneously the best and worst move I have ever seen in a TV series. Killing a main character is AWESOME, something you never expect, but is TERRIBLE, because they couldn't replace his character with one that was nearly as good.

Seen the first few episodes of some other series (FMA, Naruto) but they all seem very "Kiddy". Is there a recommended series that is on the same intellectual level as Death Note?

90% of people think they are above average.

Statistically Improbable. Psychologically Inevitable.

Great Teacher Onizuka is hilarious
Naruto Shipuuden - cuz i like it better when they are older. more serious i think
Dragonball - i like em all z gt
Gundam Wing - especially endless waltz
and you cant forget akira its a CLASSIC

im really bad when picking a favorite cuz i really do like them all. well atliest the ones with action. Great Teacher Onizuka is really the only non action anime that i like cuz of all the humor. i really recommend it lol
