Default Favourite Actor/Actress

I always watch Denzil Washington, no matter what the film is about or the reviews it had. American Gangster, Deja Vu, Inside Man, The Manchurian Candidate, Man on Fire, Training Day, Courage Under Fire, Glory... The guy's a movie legend.

You got any favourite actors or actresses you watch by default?

I usually watch Russel Crowe movies. Not because he's a fine actor or anything, but becuase I want to see how they managed to compensate for him beating the grip silly several times over the course of a given production. Remember, kids-- don't let the overhead mike you're holding touch Russel Crowe by accident, or he'll put you in the hospital, because he's a violent, violent man...

I also tend to give anything with Brad Pitt in it the benefit of the doubt. Now, I know he's the pretty boy all the women go ooh over, and that's fine-- but the fact of the matter is, he tends to only agree to be in movies that have a certain tone of badassery to them. Troy is one of my favorite movies, even though it rapes the Iliad from a story standpoint; and who doesn't like Fight Club?

Which brings me to my next point-- Edward Norton is also someone I tend to give the benefit of the doubt to. Unlike the previous two, he's actually a pretty good actor, and he's proven it by doing all sorts of different stuff. Death To Smoochy is great (although Robin Williams made that one great...), and American History X got a lot of attention (and rightly so.)

I agree that Edward Norton and Morgan Freeman both make anything they're in miles better. Morgan Freeman could read a telephone directory and I'd be captivated.

John Hurt's a bloody good actor I think.

Johnny Depp can do anything (though that one where he's the journalist searching for that satanic book is really shite).

Katherine Hepburn was amazing. From a Boston socialite to Eleanor of Aquitane, she could do it all.

Hmm, more than one 'favourite' there.

Fave actor is Christopher Walken, can't think of a bad role he's done, and I'll watch any movie he's in regardless of subject matter. Other actors I really like that I'd probably watch any film they are in include Johnny Depp (ever since I saw him in Edward Scissorhands,) Jeff Bridges, Morgan Freeman, Sean Bean, Robert De Niro, Sidney Poitier, Richard Dreyfuss and Denzel Washington.

Actress, hmm a little tougher to pick one out, possibly Sally Field, Dianne Wiest, Mary Steenburgen or an actress I am starting to really like as shes proving herself the more films I see her in is Liv Tyler. I also think one to watch for the future going on her work in Silent Hill (played Sharon/Devil character) and Pictures of Hollis Woods is Jodelle Ferland.

I will watch anything with Johnny Depp in it, he seems to be capable of any role as Red says. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a good example of that!

A favourite Actress is harder to think of as almost all of the ones I have liked in a film have done some bloody terrible jobs in too many other films. I could tell you which actress I dislike the most, that fatuous boy-girl in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Any actor who will to give everything they have to a role gets a grade A stamp in my book. I just tend to look at it from one movie to the next and never focus on just the actor.

Take for example Johnny Depp. While he did have amazing roles, (Pirates Willy Wonka and the Legand of sleepy hollow) he also had films where his preformance was just not as good (secret window). Sure I love a good amount of the movies he's in but he, and his movies, sometimes fail to deliver.

Some actors can really pick their roles and land in some good parts that they really shine. Denzil and Russel seem to be really lucky in this regard.

Lastly Morgan Freeman is not an Actor, he is an avatar to some old god of plays, song, and showmanship. He was good in Wanted and he bearly did anything. He needs to only lend his voice and the movie gets better in the eyes of the critics and public alike. I tell you the man is not human.

I also agree with Red Orc, I could sit and listen to him read a phone book and be capitvated

The same LARGELY goes for James Earl Jones....

It took the Star Wars Prequels to get a bit out of him that I didn't like.

Jason Isaacs; that guy is just awesome. He's got the look of gentry and brings it to every role he plays. Daniel Craig, because he's the best Bond IMHO (excluding Connery, of course) and Casino Royale was just so badass.

Catherine Zeta-Jones because she's got brings that sophisticated beauty aura to any role she plays. Halle Berry because she's gorgeous, and Dame Judi Dench because she's the best M of all time.
