I dont have a single favorite war movie. my favorites are 300, Last of the Mohicans, Red Dawn, and Saving Private Ryan.
My favorite war series is Band of Brothers.

My youtube channel. Feel free to stop by and have a look if you're interested. I do Airsoft, some warhammer related videos, and gaming videos.

R.I.P. Uncle Lee. You will be greatly missed by us all. We will see each other again some day.

Cross of Iron is pretty good, as well as Das Boot.

Most war films are all gung-ho Americana.

Maybe I'm just wierd, but one of my favorite war movies of all time is Lawrence of Arabia.

One of them, anyway.

My actual favorites are Patton, The Longest Day, and Tora!Tora!Tora!

As great as some of the movies mentioned by my fellow Heretics are, I can't honestly call them favorites. I've a little too much emotion invested in a few of them. Example, Black Hawk Down. Excellent movie (the book is, like always, worlds better), but the thing is... I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when that actually happened. I was stationed at Eglin AFB in Florida and I was given an hour for chow, so being young and poor, I headed to the Mess Facility and got myself a decent lunch. No sooner did I sit down with my tray and prepare to start eating when the TV in the place (showing CNN) broke out of their normal coverage to show us all a bunch of happy, skinny third-world savages dragging the naked, dead body of an American soldier down a street, having a block party.

The entire place was stunned into silence, and I am pretty sure my lunch didn't get eaten.

Jarhead was cool, but I think Generation:Kill is out there a little too early. I can't form a valid, objective opinion about it because a lot of my friends are still involved in that whole shitstorm, so, again: I'm too close to it emotionally to give it a fair shot.

'At two minutes to eleven, opposite the South African Brigade, at the eastern-most point reached by the British armies, a German machine-gunner, after firing off a belt without pause, was seen to stand up beside his weapon, take off his helmet, bow, and then slowly walk to the rear.' -John Buchan

Jarhead, only war moivie with no killing by the main character, and for pure realisticness it has to be Saving Private Ryan

Do not disallusion yourself brothers, today we die, our bodies broken and our souls shattered, we will be remembered as corpses on a battlefield.Raise hell my brothers for one day our great Father will hear of our struggle, and he will be honoured to call us his Sons. In death our Glory shall become eternal.' Karik Farron, 1st Lord of the Dark Scorchers at the Fall of Kempar.

Kelly's Heroes! Tons of great actors. I always spend half the movie going "look how YOUNG he looks!" lol Love the plot and dialogue.

other tops: Full Metal Jacket, Troy, and Saving Private Ryan.

I fell asleep during "Kingdom of Heaven" Liam dies in the first 15 minutes and its crap from there on out.

Default Wow

Loads of Great (and NOT so Great!) films being mentioned!

Here are a few I am looking at now in my collection...(those not already mentioned of course!):

Bridge on the River Kwai
Attack Force Z
The Dirty Dozen
The Battle of Midway
Memphis Belle
Operation Petticoat
Run Silent, Run Deep (someone was looking for sea-type films...)
Stalag 17
The Dogs of War
Breaker Morant

I love films and I love War films...anyone like my list?

ps. The Thin Red Line is one of the most brilliant movies EVER made...if anyone can't even consider it good or keep awake through it...you should be put up against the wall and SHOT!!!
