anyone have the 40k heat 3 results?

And if you do, could you tell me where i finished??? we had to leave early to get back to devon so i couldnt get the details of how i did.

Four CSM lists in the top 10 is interesting but not hugely significant, statistically. In other recent tournies there have been more orks and/or daemons. Those three seem to be the top performers at the moment, but it's interesting to see a couple of eldar guys in the mix and some nids.

Still no sign of marines though. I'd also be interested to see the whole list to see whether it backs up my "marines are rubbish" theory... as I try to build a marine list.

I think marines have the potential to be good.

The thing about Marines is that they are jack of all trades but masters of none. They are middle of the road for firepower and hth, but are nearer the top end points wise.

Whether you think they are any good or not, and how to do better with them, is best discussed in the tactics forum I think. For now I'm just curious how they did this weekend.

It was the baltimore GT that started the question, so I'm wondering if things are the same this side of the pond.

Ok fair enough. Half the top ten starts to look silly. To be fair though more people in other recent tournaments have been up there with daemons and orks as well.

Four of the bottom 10 are space marines too. Hmm.

Eldar seem to have put in a much better showing than in other recent events. There hardly seemed to be any in baltimore but here are a few, and with some very good placings.

We'll see what happens in the finals. Of course, there won't be many marine players there...

I disagree - the Ork trukk armies give up a ton of KPs, meaning you can struggle in 2/6 missions.

CSM had the strongest qualifcation showing, and I think they were basically all lash lists weren't they? They looks strong all round - give up few KPs, great at knocking opponents off objectives, & able to take on any army type - and that seems to be backed up in practice.

yep CSM had best qualification showing with lash all the way, but i feel orks without trukks are probably best i.e. mass boyz to get objectices and nob bikers/meganobz in battlewagon for elitness!

It took me a while to get used to my lash list as i only had 2 oblits and a vindy (hit only once all GT), maybe more oblits and lash can be more devestating at range but i used it to get me in combat all weekend!

I do prefer my eldar, as they tend to be more forgiving....sometimes anyway:victory: Also i felt this years heat 3 was a tad easier than last year, maybe that was just me, but after crap luck in game one my rolls averaged out and wins came a bit more easily!

You can't go to ground when you turbo-boost. See the special rule description.

I also felt this heat was easier than last year. Harry attended all three heats and thinks heat 3 had the overall toughest builds.

yeah i went to all the heats, heat one was by far the easiest. heat 2 and 3 were close. heat 2 had lots more spanish players etc, but the top tables didnt change hands to much. heat 3 was hard. more time to get used to the new edition etc. heat 3had some of the big game players, the big names turned up. as a result there seamed to be a huge scrum between tables 20 to 50. the painting was much better than heat 1 and 2, they had to put up 10 painting nominations!

you cant really compare the heats from last year to this year. its a different game. having to take more troops means u have to cut down the more distructive stuff, the armys that do well dont have to as there troops are rock hard anyway. i.e plague marines, transports are almost a must if ure slow. eldar are good. i hate eldar. but im starting my eldar army soon. im selling my soul

Heat 3 certainly had tougher builds than heat 1. At heat 3, armies were making far more use of transports (which imo is definitly the best basis for 5th edition) I cant speak for heat 2 but heat 1 definitly had a 4th ed hangover feel.

I didn't think heat 2 had all that many Spanish players. There was a number of foreign players but a fair few were Greek and a couple of Italians as well.

harrytheschmuck; Interesting to hear you think heat 2 & 3 were quite close but in what terms? The types of army people took or armies that won?

As for having to cut down on the destructive stuff to fill out the troops. I guess I should look guilty. Terminators and bikes as troops proved to be rather good.

I was the highest qualifying space marine player with imperial fists. This was my first tournament so i can't comment on other years.

CSM were in the top 10 a lot, but they seemed to be every 3rd army right the way till the end of the list

There's been a few mentions of the finesse required for lash armies. What am I missing?

I mean you get your two DP's with lash for just over the price of Landraider. You move your opponents around to suit yourself and the rest of your army does it's thing. The ability doesn't eat into your troops, mobility or firepower and is on a model more than able to look after itself.

I think fast and brittle armies like mech tau/eldar require finesse, CSM basically get the ability extra on an already capable (that' capable not all conquering) army.

I would say there is little or no finesse required to use lash, IMO obviously, please tell me what i'm missing.

well its all quite true, exept a few things:

Tau requires finesse, eldar does not! the current seer council/holo fortune lists are the most forgiving lists in 40k atm. i hav been using my eldar council list recently and its so easy to use tbh. With my lash list i actually had to be careful with deployment so my princes with there awful T5 dont get shot to pieces! then again lash if a very broken power and if the CSM codex didnt have it i would take space marines! most good players can deal with lash, i aways hav (but then again my eldar have RoW).

I more or less agree with Cabbage here. Lash is a very cheap add on for an HQ that you have to take anyway. You don't really have to base your army around it, it's a freebie. Lash sorcerors are the cheapest viable HQ available to Chaos and lash DPs are still not expensive at all when compared to some of the alternatives.

However what I would say is that even if lash doesn't require skill, it does reward skill. There are so many things you can do with the power that somebody with an awareness of which way to use it at any particular time is going to have an advantage.

I don't think the Seer Council bike list is quite as point and click as it appears at first sight - di Tommaso had two councils and failed to qualify. However, it is very forgiving in some ways, and very good at capture and control.

I would disagree with Lash Princes being easey to use. Don't get me wrong, I did win Heat 3 with two in my army, but on average I used it twice a game. It is cheap and cheerful compared to the other abilities that you can give Daemon princes but I use it primarily in situations where I need just a few inches to drag some one out in the open or in charge range. I then let either my Khorne bezerkers, terminators or thousand sons do the rest.

The Daemon princes don't normally survive games due to them receiving alot of the opponents attention or not quite being able to cut the mustard in close combat like they used to.

CSM do benifit in 5th edition by having good troop choices which are equivilent of other armies elites.

Well first off Lash Machine, welcome to the boards. Please introduce yourself in the fall in section. It's good to have you here!

The thing is, Lash Princes aren't exactly the hardest thing in the world to use either! Lets face it, it's a cheap, bent, overly good power. I don't think it's a game breaker but then again if you just happened to be out of range with the zerkers etc etc, the tournament could/would have gone very differently!
