When I first got my models, I didn't have anything to primethem with. So I picked a few (one khorne berserker and one plague marine) and gave them two coats of 1:1 Skull white paint from the citadel basic set.
They looked ugly, but oddly enough, once I started painting them proper, I found that the paint held quite well. Not only that, but the finished look was smooth and rich, and was immensely pleased.
Some time later, I got a can of skull white spray and used it to basecoat the rest of my zerkers. This time, as I painted, I didn't like the result as much: the colors seemed a bit flat and rough. Not bad, but...different, and not quite as good. Adding washes in particular made them look dirty instead of washed.
Has anyone else experienced that? I'll be posting pictures as soon as my new camera arrives.
