Default Cadian Battlegroup - The forging of an army

Here's my first stab at a 2k list with the Cadian Battlegroup. It's a big unwieldy old thing, with very little flexibility in truth, but I wanted to give it a go so I can at least say I've played it and who knows; when it was released I thought Battle Company would be pretty poor, but it turned out to be very strong. Maybe the Battlegroup will surprise me. This thread will be updated with refinements to the list as I play it.

The only realistic Core detachment is the Armoured Company; the Infantry Company is just far too many points and models for me to run at this point, or possibly ever. 2 30-man blobs is what I currently run, and while I would like to increase that by a bit to either 80 or 90 Guardsmen, 150 plus 3 Sentinels is a big deal. For my auxiliary, two slots are taken up with my previously-CAD blob squads; the third I've used for what I think is going to be the only viable auxiliary formation (as opposed to the single-unit selections), the Psykana Division.

COMMAND:

Company Command Squad in Chimera with Camo Netting

It's cheap, it gives out 3 Senior Officer orders at 18" on 3D6 discard the highest, it's fairly resilient to the front facing. Tank Commander loses out on the extraordinarily powerful Orders mechanic, so this is the only option I'm even going to consider for the time being. Sure, Pask is great and all, but Bring It Down! and Fire On My Target! are what makes Guard even viable as an army.

I really want to try out Vanquishers - the models kick ass, and at BS4 I think they can be a very solid anti-tank platform which relieves some anti-tank duties from my infantry, who can then get on with the important job of shooting infantry and T<7 monsters with FRFSRF, Sharpshooters and hopefully some buffs from psychic powers. Eradicators are brilliant workhorse anti-infantry tanks; not going to run the game, but they're 140pts and really let you nail infantry in cover. 3 BS4 Heavy Bolters apiece isn't a half bad bonus, to boot. The Executioner is there as a terror tactic as much as anything; people tend to think they're a lot more useful than I've found mine in the past!

They're a bunch of guys that can receive orders, are reasonably resilient, surprisingly competent in melee against anything that's not a specialist anti-infantry melee unit, and pretty much exist to add what anti-infantry fire they can around shooting Ignores Cover Lascannons.

They cast Divination buffs on people. Only the one Commissar is unfortunate, but points are still a thing to worry about; the idea being that the Commissar and Primaris join one blob, and then the Primaris gets to cast on a 2+ knowing all the powers of the Wyrdvanes.

They dissuade people from charging the blobs, most importantly give out LD10 for Orders, and add a few Warp Charge dice and Divination powers to the pool. Liber Heresius because why not?

I'm playing against a Tyranid army tomorrow; I'll write up how it goes and say how I think the list has fared.

-1 to my toughness would never dissuade me, but then again I love for close combat in this game.

Looks like a fun list, I look forward to seeing how it preforms for you.

Unfortunately Canada got rid of the penny and now my two cents rounds down to zero, so...take it for what you will.
