Steel Host?

Steel Host Formation:

1 Command LRBT
3 Squads of LRBT
1 Hydra

So how do I make a list out of this? I only have 4 LRBT, 3 regular, 1 any variant. Do I have to make a bound army and make this formation a detachment? I'm not very good at list building but any help would be great

Hey mate,

The simplest way to do this is to deploy:
HQ
1 LR Tank Commander
1 LR Commander's squad mate.

HS
1 LR Tank
1 LR Tank
1 LR Tank
1 Hydra

This would be your primary detachment, presumably, unless you were also fielding a C.A.D HQ, 2 Troops list alongside it. The formation would then take up a second detachment but your HQ in the Primary detachment would have to be your warlord.

I'm playing in an "escalation" league, meaning you add 250 points every two weeks, not the supplement. This is at a GW store and is suppose to be a new army or project. I'm thinking I want to expand my LR selections and be able to run the formation in a tournament list of 1850.

The max points at the end of the escalation league will be 1500, so I guess I need to progress unbound throughout and was thinking my Steel Host 1500 point list would be:

Command Punisher- Pask
Punisher
Punisher
3 LRBT
2 Executioners
1 Demolisher
Hydra

I could, however, make it bound and go:

Command Squad:
Command Punisher- Pask
Punisher
Punisher

Troops:
Vet squad- 3 Plasma
Vet squad- 3 grenade launchers or 3 flamers (don't benefit from being vets if flamers)

Heavy Support
3 LRBT
2 Executioners
Hydra

Thoughts? How would you spend 1500 points on a Steel Host?

Thanks!

You know, Army Builder says that you can't take Pask and, indeed, looking at the formation rules it does just say 'Tank Commander'. Although, I actually disagree with this as Pask is just an upgrade, and additionally Army builder interprets the Tank Commander's squadron as one of the three squadrons... So, perhaps its a rules interpretation issue, because I think either reading is arguable.

What are the steps in the escalation? For 650 points, you can field the fully bound formation in a stripped down form (Army builder style), with
Punisher commander (warlord)
Punisher
LRBT
LRBT
Hydra

Then you can bulk it up to play by my reading for later games and tournaments.

If the first step is 500 points, consider:
Punisher Commander
Punisher
Vet Squad (for holding objectives only at this point)
Vet Squad (for holding objectives only at this point)
Hydra

Not a great list to start with, but then who brings stuff to deal with two AV14 tanks at 500 points? Also, it then lets you build up later on, bringing a lord commissar for a CAD alongside the Steel Host formation to give your troops Objective secured.
