I did this as a one off tester for an army. I really liked it, but back then I HATED the rules and the limited army list for the necrons. So I took the red scheme and ended up doing the imperial guard instead.
Quite a simple paint scheme. The red starts off mecharite red (it didnt when I did this one, but its FAR easier than getting a flat coat out of red gore!!) then washed with brown ink (devlan mud now x2 coats). Then you build up slowly through the reds using thined paints. So, red gore, blood red about 5 coats of each slowly layering it up, using the very thin nature of the red paint to make the colour denser each time.
The cloak is just working up through the citadel grey range. Again, using very thinned paints to give it a chalky look (especially the white highlights.) When I upload the howling banshees later I will explain in more detail because they really use this techinque.
The final bit of this model thats a bit more interresting is the green plastic tube. I bought a load of these off people trying to work out a way of painting them. It doesnt work. You either have to paint the entire thing (which is a pain) or you have to have a lovely model with a bit of lego stuck on it. So I cheated - the rod is drilled out almost to the tip and filled with red ink using a very long caligraphy brush. Worked better than anything else I tried.
Base was a rush job, I hate it. Wish I hadnt bothered at all.
