Shokk Attack Gun question

Could someone tell me why on the reference chart the Shokk Attack Gun is listed as both an Ordnance and a Heavy weapon? As Ordnance are just Heavy weapons for vehicles (to my understanding).

Couldn't they just have made it "Heavy 1, Large Blast"?

I don't really know the Orc codex, but I do know that it would be bad idea to make it just Heavy 1, Large Blast. If that was so the vehicle could fire every weapon it had instead of just the Shokk Gun. Also you would lose your pinning ability and better armor penetration if it wasn't Ordnance.

Still no idea why it would list them as both though... should just say Ordnance.

Well when rolling against tanks it makes a world of difference. As "heavy" guns have no bonus vs tanks and ordanace do
Ordnance guns against tanks roll 2 D6 and pick the highest for armour penetration.

I think they put heavy on for infantry. Ordanance is just a "rule" not really a class of weapon. I don't think there is any restriction to how far you can move and use an ordanace weapon on infantry. Thats why most guns will have "heavy" written next to them.

As the above posters have already said, it's just an ordnance gun on something that can't usually take an ordnance weapon. I'm guessing it says heavy since the ork codex was written with 5th in mind and they weren't sure how they were going to word this type of gun.

Yea the reason i was asking is becuase The Shokk Attack Gun can only be taken by a Big Mek (thats an HQ who is an Infantry, for those who don't know to much about Orks...) and thats why it was confusing to me

The main reason they made it both ordinance and heavy is because there's no rules for infantry using ordinance weapons, just vehicles. So they made it heavy too to stop you moving and shooting with the damned thing.

I suppose they could have just made it heavy large blast, but yeah, armor penetration/vehicle damage is better for ord.

You're thinking of barrage and ordinance barrage. Regular ordinance don;t pin unless otherwise mentioned
