Default Dagmire's Tavern: Market Research

Guys I am after a little help.
I am thinking about setting up a Tavern that would hopefully include a bar, paint stations, gaming tables and computer game stations.
The idea is that people could came to the store and hang out, paint, have a game and a drink in an adult enviroment.

The details are sketchy at best, what i am looking for from you guys is information.
What would you like to see in such a place?
What sort of area would you like this location to be in?
How exclusive would you like it?
Would you visit often?
What times would be best?
Would you game there more then at a local club?
Would you move a gaming club to this sort of location if it was close?
Would you pay a fee to get in, if so how much is fair?
What computers whould you like to see there?
What games would you like to see?

Is there any other information you think could help out?

I am looking to help the Uk get a better Gaming comunity and will need help if there is to be the slightest possibility that I can turn this froma dream to a reality.

Thanks
D

It sounds like a cool idea.

But...

1. from a business point of view, opening a bar just for war gamers is going to massively reduce your amount of custom, and therefore income. I think that you would struggle to get enough gamers in one area to run this as a business.

2. from a practical view point, once people have had a few beers I would assume that any thoughts attempting to properly play or paint etc. would probably stop. Plus if people are going out for a drink are they really going to be arsed carting there models about with them?

Just my thoughts but it would be a cool novelty.

Maybe you could try and sign members up and use it to host ongoing leagues and tournies. Then you could get a members fee and would get income from people using the bar during tournies

What would you like to see in such a place?

Smoking chairs! I'd fucking chill out in one with a cigar and strippers. Loads of strippers, dancing on tables dressed like commissars to start with...

What sort of area would you like this location to be in?

Essex...

How exclusive would you like it?

Not very, the more exclusive the less people you'd have visit. (if thats what you mean?)

Would you visit often?

Once or twice a week perhaps.

What times would be best?

All day sat + sun plus weeknights excluding friday.

Would you game there more then at a local club?

Probably if it was more permanent and featured alcohol/adult themes.

Would you move a gaming club to this sort of location if it was close?

Dunno, probably but then kids would be out.

Would you pay a fee to get in, if so how much is fair?

5 quid tops. You'd be shooting yourself in the foot if you went higher.

What computers whould you like to see there?

Not really arsed.

What games would you like to see?

FPS, fifa, 40k etc. Plus all the regular shit.

What would you like to see in such a place?

Gaming stuff in general, books, templates all the kinda stuff you'd expect to see in a gaming store...

What sort of area would you like this location to be in?

Not really bothered, if you advertise well, I'm sure people would be willing to travel. However, if you intend on selling alcohol, near town centres would be good.

How exclusive would you like it?

I don't think you'd need it to be that exclusive. I mean, if it's a gaming environment then you'd expect kids up to adults. But obviously, you could have gaming nights where you have the vets etc.

Would you visit often?

As much as possible, my local indie is great for supplying food and drink. If I had time, it would be Friday, Saturday and Sundays.

What times would be best?

All day weekends Friday evenings.

Would you game there more then at a local club?

Depending if it was closer, or if it was around me in Uni then yeah.

Would you move a gaming club to this sort of location if it was close?

Yeah, if I had a gaming club then definitely.

Would you pay a fee to get in, if so how much is fair?

I think that between 1 and 5 seems fair, however, 5 to some people might seem steep. 2 - 3 seems pretty fair in my opinion.

What computers whould you like to see there?

Not bothered really, you'd be a fool to take computers to be fair. They get broken easily, if you're aiming it at a big age group, you'd have to be pretty vigilant.

What games would you like to see?

All the usual stuff, FPS, stuff like that. Just a few games that are at the top of the ratings.

Also, if you're planning on selling alcohol. Don't you have to get a liscence and all that? Also, I'd suggest you sell food aswell. That does prove to be a big hit with people.

What about a snooker/pool come wargaming hall then when you get the wargamers in you could just slide a gaming board over the snooker/pool table and bam you have a gaming table,
The extra space on the table could be used for "dead models" and your rule book etc.

This would be like heaven for me Beer, pool and warhammer under one roof I would only ever go home for dinner...... unless you serve food too and if you do I'm a fully trained Chef

Thanks for teh info guys. This is still very much apipe dream at the moment but as my time in the army counts down its time to start thinking about what i am goig to do,
I am very serious about this but clearly it will take time and money.
Food and drink would be a deffinet, Its a possibility that I would buy a pub and convert it up.

Would there be a need to stock product?

Want to buy my local? ;D

I think if you stocked actual models it would increase your turnout, because you'd not only get the money from actually letting people use it, but the profit from the Product. At least that way you can get more people in. That would then lead on to the possibility of online stores etc etc.

The whole idea of a pub is really cool

I think you have it a bit backwards or just plain screwed up. For one, people are not going to go to a bar/pub to play with their toy soldiers, they are going their to get drunk and look at or hit on girls. Secondly, it will be a total sausage fest. I don't want to go to a bar/pub where women will be almost unheard of visiting. Why strap on a set of beer goggles if all I have to look at are ugly dudes? Out the door I go!

You just need to think about opening up a hobby store that has a serious drinking problem.

This might be the way to go...

I think making it look like a pub might be good though, you know a small bar and stuff.
