Default How to make a wargames club more exciting?

Hey all, I need ideas on how to make my wargames club more exciting (as I run the thing) its my job! yay!

My ideas so far:

A campaign under construction, just need to make a map (help needed, see this thread:Campaign (HELP!)

Also thinking of a badges of rank system?
1 - (me) Chapter Master
2 - Veteran
3 - Librarian
4 - Master
5 - Captain
6 - Veteran Sergeant
7 - Sergeant
8 - 2nd Sergeant
9 - Marine
10 - Scout
Supervisor (teachers) - Chaplains

Any other ideas welcome!

Thanks

If you wanted to have a similar feel of achieving something, without the hassle of organising a campaign, you could always just run a league. Then try to organise it along the same lines as GT so that there are a few prizes for best painted, most sporting, etc. If you wanted to give actual prizes you could always charge a small entry fee, but it doesn't have to cost anything.

Not sure about the ranking system personally, but then I guess it depends upon the games group and what the members are like.

Yay, Squeek! Much better ideas than my idea which was Naked Crocodile Wrestling (there's something weird about wrestling a fully-dressed crocodile, I always think).

Organising a League does take effort though, just a warning...

I'm not sure what the ranking is for either, but then again I don't really understand about "my wargames club ... I run the thing" and "it's my job". From the looks of it, this is a school club, right?

I would say if you're running a ranking system it should be based on painting, modelling and playing, not whether you're you. You're always going to win that one, and calling yourself "Chapter Master" 1 - looks like an ego trip, and 2 - doesn't leave the 'top slot' open to anyone else until you leave the school. That's not right, I reckon. Even if it was your idea to set up the club, you don't get to be lifetime dictator, I don't think.

Have you asked at the club what the other members want to make things more exciting?

First thoughts are a modelling competition; a painting competition; a Combat patrol tournament; a Kill-Team building comp (who has the best models and fluff); all of these are quite small things.

On the other hand, maybe an "Apocalypse Event" where everybody brings everything they've got and you have one massive barney going on all day.
