This thread was started before they came out really, probably why they're not in there.

The problem is old games rarely stand up to the test of time. I remember playing Baldurs Gate 2 a lot when it came out, an epic game (Apart from getting uncontrollably turned to stone, that was shoddy). But is it as good as Skyrim? No it's not. I consider Deus Ex and System Shock I/II to be classics but I wouldn't necessarilu play them again nor recommend anyone to play them now, you just had to be there.

Also am I the only one not suffering from some mass hallucination in which Golden Eye is considered a good game? It's not, it's bad.

Golden Eye was good in its time, when I see it now, it looks like a steaming pile shit. There are some games though that still stand tall on there own, like old school Doom, sure its graphics is completely outdated, but it is still today one of the hardest FPS games ever made.

My favourites are (in no particular order):

Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Mass Effect 2
AC2
Dead Space 1/2
Bioshock 1/2
Skyrim (the other Elder Scrolls game are also great for single)
Fallout 3 (the other Fallout games are also amazing for single player, especially 1 and 2 - though they are PC only - they really bring the atmosphere of the post apocalyptic wasteland to life)

There are loads of other single player games I would recommend but these are the main ones that initially sprung to mind. There are loads of good single player PC games though.

Regards,
Jake.

Baldurs Gate and Deus ex do stand the test of time IMO, unless as test of time you only mean graphics. And comparison of Baldurs Gate and Skyrim is not in place, as they are two totally different kinds of RPG.

Anyway, my list of favourite single player games:

Planescape Torment
Baldurs Gate 2
The Witcher 1 and 2
Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind
Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2
Mass Effect 1 and 2
Total War series
Gothic 2

I still feel that Diablo 1 looks better then Diablo 2, now those were some of the best single player games... Its a shame D3 is gonna be World of Diablo.

Mass Effect is awsome and soon coming out with Mass Effect 3, Borderlands is a great game and coming out with a second one, Skyrim = the bomb!!!! Lots of side missions and the story line is pretty cool, and the other 2 are cool morrowind and oblivion Spacemarine is kinda short but still worth the play.
