Why would it be bullshit? Square packed in coupons for a free game from a direct competitor. Packing something like that was just foolish on Square's part.

It's basically the same as Square packing in a coupon saying Buy all your video games at Best Buy.

its still bullshit, as the other company allowed square to put that in in the first place. Gamestop wants them not to do it then gamestop should allow them to put it in for gamestop instead.

but wait, that would cut down the prices they gamestop gouges out of people in the first place.

WIPS: CHECK THEM OUT!

As a retailer of new games, what's in the box is none of their concern. Once a game is opened for any reason, it's not new. At least, that's what they'll tell you if you were to return something that was sealed when you took it home. This stuff works both ways.

The difference being that when you take a game home and unseal it you have the opportunity to play said game. Gamestop isn't running a rental service, and allowing people to return opened games for a full refund is foolish.

That being said you can still return an opened game if you're careful about who you talk to in the store.

Regardless, if Best Buy had found that all the Deus Ex games were packed with a free game from Gamestop without Best Buys permission you can bet they would pull them all from the shelves.

Equally so, paying a company who are giving you an incomplete product as deemed by the publisher is just as foolish. And depending on whether the damage is done before or after payment, may actually constitute nothing less than theft.

If Gamestop didn't want to sell on competition, they shouldn't stock the game. You can't purchase the rights to sell the game then take bits out of it because it's runs in competition to you.

Something like that needs to be disclosed to the Gamestop by the publisher. What was taken out was a paid advertisement from On Live, and had nothing to do with SquareEnix.

They removed no "bits" from the game as the game was still intact, they removed an advertisement for a direct competitor within the packaging. Big difference.

Now if the game could only run through On Live it would be another matter entirely.

If you stock it, you sell everything that's in it. That's my opinion at least.
