Blizzard’s Secret Titan Project Labeled a ‘New Casual MMO’

Michael McWhertor — The people who make MMO juggernaut World of Warcraft have another massively multiplayer online game in the works, a game they're calling Titan for now. Blizzard calls it "awesome" and "ambitious." One analyst calls it "casual."

That analyst would be Stern Agee's Arvind Bhatia, who writes that Blizzard Entertainment's next products are "expansion packs for Starcraft and World of Warcraft, a new Diablo game, [and] a new casual MMO" that are "likely be released in the next 12 to 24 months." Bhatia clarified with Gamasutra that the "casual MMO" he was referring to was, indeed, Titan.

With World of Warcraft appearing to have reached its player-base cap and Activision more reliant on Call of Duty to be a success, a newer broader market for Titan would make sense—even if we don't know just how "casual" this game is expected to be.

And with more games pursuing a free-to-play model, how will that jibe with Blizzard's supposed casual-leaning MMO development plans?

In the long run I figure all the MMO's will end up as F2P. It has much more crack dealing income potential. They most likely will release as subscription if they have a big enough name, then as player base shrinks they will do the switch so they can wring every last drop out of the product. Honestly have no issue with this, the Turbine setup for F2P on DDO and LoTRO is actually fairly nice I think.

Jesus Christ, Blizzard is now just whoring itself to the world of MMOs... Besides, they will design it so it won't be casual, but addictive as hell.

Exactly. Thus the reason I will stay a fucking mile away from it to ensure that I save my sweet bellowed money.

WoW has almost 12 million players at their last count I heard. The only game that has a bigger amount of players is Call Of Duty: Black Ops. I'm not sure how much more of a "border" market they can get then that.

They only way they would get more is if Titan is a blizzard made Farmville, that you play in browser and don't need to purchase a CD.

Plus I can't imagine how they could make a new MMO even MORE casual then WoW. Will they just start you at the level cap this time?

Thats an Idea start at level cap and regress the object is to go backwards instead of forward...

I avoid all MMOs like a Nurgle sweetest plague. To me they are not only a waste of time but a waste of money. I can't justify paying for a CD and then paying amonthly fee just to play a game I payed full price for and I deal with people all day long at work why the hell would I wanna go home and deal with more annoying a$$ people.

true, but you spend hours on end leveling up and gaining the new shiny sword and what not and what do you have to show for. NOTHING, why because it doesnt exsist. When i finish painting a new model I actually have something to show for what I did for the last several hours.

:-p I have done them off and on in the past, did 5 years in WoW. It is more of a social thing for me, sort of like live action mb trolling. I view it as just as useful as going out drinking at a bar with ppl, another thing that just a few nights of would pay for a year of the game. At least the way I drink when I go out :-D
