Default 40K Final Liberation: Epic ????

This is a PC Format (as far as I know) from circa '96/7.
Can anyone shed some light on this game...... is it worth it?

linked to a question on the 40K General Forum post "Old Warhammer/40K movies"

Thanks

Final Liberation was an epic scaled PC game that was slated to be huge, but lost support almost immediately after release. Only Ork and Imperial forces, those initially released with the game, were ever actually released.

The game pitted huge forces consisting of infantry, vehicles, titans, and super-heavies against one another on various terrain maps to include entire imperial cities to large industrial wastes and desert scrub lands. The graphics were pretty cool for the time, but were blocky all the same.

My copy no longer works on my WinXP system, so it has been quite a while since I enjoyed it. I'd sell every other GW game (Dawn of War included) before I'd part with it, though. Final Liberation is my fave all-time GW PC game.

Thanks Hespithe.

So it was a little like Chaos Gate & ???? (the Hex, squad based 40K one) can't remember the name at the moment.... graphics style?

Did Final Liberation have some cool in-game video clips e.g. the waking of a Titan??

There were a few clips, yes, and a few really nice still pieces as well.... these stills really detailed the superheavies and titans (and their comparisons) better than just about anything since, too. The game was hex-based and a but rugged, but very cool and lotsa fun.

Yes it was along the lines of Chaos Gate however the maps were generally larger, and there were no individual characters or units that you could equip yourself.

The biggest drawback for me was the the computer AI was bad which made the campiagn pretty easy. Also if i remember right you could only play the campaign from the imperial side.

Overall though it is a great game and consumed numerous hours of my life.

You can get it as a downlaod for doss as it's considered abandonware now, and a group of people added chaos marines to it,
It was only last week I downloaded it actually XD
It's ok.. but the tutorial mission isn't really a tutorial... and I don't get how everything works.. he can shoot me but I can't shoot him.. and I'm a titan.. huh ¬_¬

Final Lib? Okay game for the time, less than okay today, but the in-game videos on it are certainly worth it ;) (you should be able to you tube them)

The in-game cutscenes are quite... interesting, would probably be the best word for them... Ah, who am I kidding, they're freaking hilarious. Acting was so poor I bet a servitor could do better. Went along the same lines as "Inquisitor" which is an old GW Movie that they frequently play at conventions. Anyway, it's a good game, but if you have WinXP good luck running it. Mine wont work for crap, and I shudder to think of how it would react to Vista.
