I played WoW for a bit. Maybe 6 months. It was okay. I tend to avoid farming/ mining and that sort of thing. Gets boring...reminds me that I should be working. Not good.

Coming from the tabletop RPG world of games, I see that video games certainly have their place. They may not have the depth of tabletop RP, but they are fast, and if all you are doing is killing shit, then they are a perfect vehicle for that style of play.

Similar in this vein is miniature games. Video games are really more efficient for this kind of play...as long as folks are here for simply killing and winning. Take a look at Total War (Shogun to Medieval) or other strategic or RTS games. For my part, I'm actually here for the toys more than the game, so it's all good. I get a lot more satisfaction out of assembling minis, priming, painting and conversions than I do actually playing the game. Actual play is kind of like a Bonus for me.

Anyhow, that's my 2 sesterces.

For MMO's, I have a preference for DAoC. While it suffers from all the same ails of every MMO, the point of the game is the war between the realms and conflict between the players. Once you have maxed your levels and gear and everything else there is to do, there is still a point, crushing the enemy realms mercilessly. The game was designed for mass player vs player combat, including defensive fortifications and siege weaponry, and is pretty successful at this. What's more, you don't have to max your levels to go enjoy the rvr experience, since you can literally go fight enemy players at level 1 (assuming there are any to be found.)

Me too. I have no interest in any MMO except DAoC at the moment, since every other one I've tried has lacked the same sort of end game. Giant PvE raids are an okay addition, but if they are the only thing to do at endgame it's going to get old. Player vs Player combat gives you an evolving, intelligent enemy who can't be beat by just finding one trick. If Warhammer Online does what DAoC does, only better, I'll be teh first guy to sign up.

I guess.

It wasnt hard for me not to play. I'm a FPS freak.

My friends veritably forced me to play, as they bought me the game, and two 30-day playcards.

I only played til level 13,which goes by in about two hours.

Same here Anph. Give me Day of Defeat and Battlefield any day of the week.

Guild Wars isn't bad either and better than WoW as it has no monthly fee.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

That was the thing that stopped me from playing the running cost of it. Yea it would be fun and all for a while but after a while I usually get to a point when I just ask myself "why am I doing this? - it's costing me money and it an't fun no more - the last time I leveled up was the last time I washed and I have mushrooms growing in my hair. I'm bored time to do something else"

That's the thing that stops me from playing any MMO, the cost. Eve Online looks really cool, and I practically cried (in a good way) when I found out Star Wars Galaxies was out, but they all cost money!

Can't do that and have one of the most expensive hobbies in the world, eh?
