Default xbox live membership question

hey guys,

bit of a noob question. i'm considering getting an xbox live membership. my girlfriend is also interested in getting on live too.

now i roughly know how it works where you buy the subscription etc but what i can't find out is how many profiles can use that subscription.

is the subscritption registered to the console or the profile? i.e, i register my xbox and profile on live and get connected, but the my girlfriend logs in to her profile on the xbox and then go live too?

any help would be greatly appreciated :D

I think it is registered to the profile. If it was registered to the console that would be pretty fecking sweet though.

edit - in fact im certain it is only for the profile you register with

a silver membership is 100% free, but you cant play games with it on live. you can make it right on your xbox, but its not linked to your xbox in any way, you can go to a friends place with an xbox and upload your profile to their xbox and easily go on live from theirs.

if you upgrade to gold for the monthly fee, you now can play games, but you can still move your account to your friends xbox, etc.

Silver memberships can also be tied to certain PC games for windows, in example. Fallout 3 on PC

you can sometimes share the gold to play together on one account by having your friend, GF, etc, play as "guest"

if your both subbed you both can do any multiplayer game together online though

Space wolves -
Warriors of chaos -
Dark Eldar -
My armies.

the key to every good DE army makeup. Always have a backup plan, try to take everything in multiples, and use everything you can to your advantage, being a sneaky bastard within the rules, as it were.

Yeah. Subscriptions are account oriented, not console. So if you have a Silver Account and decide to upgrade it to a Gold Account after purchasing a 3-month subscription, for example, only that account will receive the benefits.

An easy way to go about this with your girlfriend is to make a mutual account both of you can share. Or you can both create your own seperate accounts if spending the extra cash isn't an issue. Though as pointed out earlier, one player can often log in as a 'Guest' to the Gold account. It's just that the Guest account won't have the same benefits of the parent account such as saving game progress/stats/achievements/etc.
