Is DoW II Good?

Iknow your probably thinking... SIGH.

But i got offered by my mate DoWII and the Chaos expansion for like £10, and i was wondering if it's actually a good game.

I hear it's epic, but i don't wanna buy it if it's not going to be that enjoyable.

I think it's great, the campaigns are awesome as you can change the equipment that your squad has from battle to battle. The Skirmish is cool as well, my laptop's really slow for DoW 2 (damn having only 1GB of RAM!) but on a fast computer it's even better.

My Pc is shit aswell!!

But my main query is can you play as more than just Blood Ravens in the skirmish, I don't like Standard Space Marines; But i quite fancy playing as like BloodAngels or Chaos!

Thanks for replying!

Sadly not Chaos unless you get the expansion, but you can be around 14 different chapters (Inc BA), 14 different Ork clans, 14 different Eldar Craftworlds and around 10 different Tyranid Hive Fleets. At the beginning of the skirmish you choose your commander:

Space Marines:
Offense: Force Commander
Defence/Support: Techmarine
Healer: Apothecary

Eldar:
Offense: Warlock
Defence/Support: Farseer
Teleport: Warp Spider Exarch

Orks:
Offence: Warboss
Defence/Support: Mekboy
Stealth: Kommando Nob

Tyranids:
Offence: Hive Tyrant
Defence/Support: Ravener Alpha (Just a strong Ravener, really)
Stealth: Lictor Alpha (Same goes for this guy)

Midnight

EDIT: Oh, and by the way, some races get WAY better 'uber-units' than others.
Eldar: Avatar (Most powerful unit in the game, about the scale of the FW one, can destroy anything it comes up against in one-on-one)
Space Marines: Predator (Come on, you expect a Pred to kill the Avatar?)
Tyranids: Carnifex (2nd most powerful unit in the game)
Orks: Looted Tank (Let's just leave it at that. But they also get Nobz who are now amazingly good with upgrades.

I played through the campaign 4 times. And I'm one of those guys that *almost* finishes games and gets bored and doesn't play it again. I'd recommend it! Just give it a while if you're used to DoW the original, it's different.

"Wulfe gestured around at the strange metal buildings. He didn't like the angles, the proportions, the lines. They didn't look like any Imperial buildings he had ever seen, and that made them wrong."

Depends on what you like and it is a well made game but i say it fails most epically because it strays too far from DOW/WA/DC/SS

I have played it at my friends house, and I enjoyed it! It is a damn good game, and you should get it in my opinion! I would have bought it a long time ago if my laptop wasnt so crappy... Sigh... Guess I will have to stick with the Original DoW games...

It's a game you'll need to play the demo of, to see if you like it. Personally i played the Skirmish game a few times, and absolutely hated it. Basically, all you do is move people from cover to cover, and how you put them in cover is twitchy. Basically, it aught to be a fast strategy game, but the difference of putting your guys in cover or fully exposed to the enemy came on a few pixels.

So yeah, try downloading the demo to see if you like it.

if you've been offered them for a tenner.. there are worse hings to spend that money on.

At that price even if you only get a couple of weeks play out of it you're onto a winner.

Me, I liked it. The lack of base building bugged the crap out of some people, however I enjoyed not having to manage buildings and just get stuck in.

my only criticism is that as you can opt to go back and play the same map to maintain campaign resources, on top of being forced back occasionally, it gets a bit samey as you keep looking at the same map over and over.

The only thing that sucks balls is the resource system. Without listening posts, the game becomes fucking capture the flag if you want to have a decent resource income.
