I'm definitely in the Age of Empires 2: Conqueror's camp. Though a friend and I spent so much time wrecking people online in the old msn gaming zone in AoE and AoE2. We had this ridiculous 1, 2 punch thing going on where all we had to do was live through the enemy's catapult rush (which we always did.) and my teammate would hit them early and I'd hit them late.
We played the Persians & the Choson. He would hunt like crazy and I'd fortify his food with my superior farms, and he'd send a wall of (faster) elephants at them. Which would usually do for at least 1 enemy. And by the time he was done with them I was ready to roll with my choson legions and heliopolises.
Not much could stand up to a wall of war elephants and Choson Legions backed up with super fast firing ballistas!
For overall game experience though AoE 2 mighty still be my favorite RTS ever. It had a better sense of building and management then other games, and such a great mix of units!
Out of curiosity how many of you played the original RTS, Herzog Zwei
(or what is claimed to be the original, not to be confused with a proto-rts)
p.s. - I played it, but I didn't care for it much - though my friends loved it.
