Wasn't Spore that I'm thinking of. I'm going to have to trawl through google untill I find out what it was now

It might have been called Rise of Nations?

I've just done a google search on that and it looks like it could've been. It was a fair few years ago now.

Regards,
Jake.

Does sound like Rise of Nations. That was a good game, but it got a little frustrating at times and the combat just didn't click with me.

Now Blitzkrieg was a great RTS. World War 2 game with great attention to detail and realism, but the AI could be real boneheads at times. I saw my tanks drive halfway accross the map in reverse gear sometimes and other times they'd turn 180 degrees, while underfire, to fall back instead of reversing. F'ing annoying.

Granted Rise of Nations wasn't the best of RTS but it was still a fun game to play through and play when bored.

Although if you were left behind in the ages you were screwed. Cavemen just don't stand a chance against futuristic robots

Jake.

Command and Conquer are really good games. No unit limit, sweet graphics, and all the camera panning and zooming business. And units look differently and have each their own pros and cons, and buildings and units look differently, not unlike AoE.

RTS' for me started with Total Annhilation, i loved this game, still do Seriously was brillliant.

Im a fan of Supreme Commander and its expansion but LOATHE SupCom2, that game was absolutly hideous.

DoW was a fun game and me and my Uni friends still have frequent LAN battles on it. Same with AoE2 and Company of Heros.

Need to try Sins of a Solar EMpire havnt got round t playing it yet sadly

I really adore Base Building RTS, insane amounts of fun, im not a fan that most seem to be taking the Total War approach to RTS and removing Base Building though

Empire earth ill bet you.
That was a fun game just rather bland at times.
I havent played much of rise of nations but i know they are somewhat alike.
The DoW games are good, the origanil SC was good if you could stomach hosts booting you in every 4 out of 5 times in MP.
Sins is fun as hell.
Lords of magic was good for its time an i still play the occasial game.
AoE is classic adn always will be, and so will the origanil dune games.

"If there is any primarch who should have never been found, its Lorgar. Why? Two words. Hours Hersey"
"It was a 1......why was it a 1!"
Yes, I do play orks, yes, I do have quite a few boys on the table, and yes, it does take me a while to move them...got a problem with that...

C&C started my love of RTS's. A little known game called Spellforce continued it. DoW e.t.c came later
