If there's one thing we can all look forward to...it's the ridiculous death sequences should a necromorph get the better of you. They get annoying during really tough parts in the game, but they're brutal.

I'm surprised people found the first Dead Space scary. It was startling at times, but it was no FEAR1 or Condemned.

When I was a young boy, I dreamed of being a baseball...

Fixed. :D

Loved the first game, played through it in a few days. I couldn't sleep for about a week after, I was actually that scared. It was brilliant in the production of atmosphere in the first two thirds of the game. The last half gave some fun, but not so scary heart pounding action.

Scariest part for me is when you go onto the crashed military ship and the twitchers appear.

When you play it alone at night with a bong sitting next to you...you'll change your opinion.

When I saw the original release date for Dead Space, October 31st, I decided to play it on Halloween. However it was released two weeks earlier and I got a head-start on it... needless to say I did not play it in the dark... and never have.

I dont think that Dead Space 2 will take the action genre further then the horror genre. Dead Space was a critical success and while many game developers see fit to mess with success in idiotic fantasies that it can be better by making it what they want and not what the gamers want, I dont believe Visceral Games will do that. Matter of fact the only games developers I trust not to ruin their sequels with loads of crap are Bioware, Relic, Epic Games and Visceral Games.

Fear 1 wasn't scary... just wierd... and crap. In my opinion at least. Dead Space was much, much better.

Jake.

Red Corsairs is right. Dead Space is the only game ive ever seen or played that is actually scary. The rest try to be but fail.

Dead Space was a very pretty game, it had interesting combat/upgrade systems and I like the way the HUD was contained in Isaac's suit. The zero-G combat was just brilliant and was the best part of the game.

Although it was a solid game I don't really classify it as scary. It was certainly startling the first couple of times a necromorph I thought was dead jumped up and bit my eyebrows off, or one snuck up on me in a vacuum and did terrible things to poor, poor Isaac. But after the 3rd or 4th time... it's just not scary. The scariest games are the ones when you cannot predict when the 'scares' are going to occur. It's a bit of personal preference too, I prefer my mindfuck fear over my monster fear.

But that's just my opinion. The majority of you seem to disagree.

When I was a young boy, I dreamed of being a baseball...

I'd say the most tense moments are when you are nearly out of ammo when a ton of Necromorphs are chasing after you.

Fear was dull. Fear 2 was dull. Fear 3 might be fun, but still dull.

That does seem to increase tension considerably, I remember shitting myself on the first level of Aliens Vs Predator in the Marine campaign in the Club because I was all out of ammo on my pulse rifle and very nearly out of ammo in my pistol when a tonne of aliens started running at me. It's not a scary game but I did have a bit of a fit then.

Anyways I can understand why you might find Fear scary but I just didn't. Like Holmstrom said, I just find that game series dull as if it's missing something. But that's just my opinion.

Regards,
Jake.
