As far as I can tell, it's all one server at the moment. And yes, you can customize your ship, right down to picking your bridge officers. You don't interact with the actual crew that much from what I could see in the Beta-- you have a compliment of redshirts for away missions that're randomly generated, but that's about the extent of it. You do, on the other hand, interact with your bridge officers quite a bit.

Ships are very customizable, but no matter what you do to them, they're ultimately still whatever class of ship they started as, and are more or less recognizable as such. During the beta, I replaced my ship's nacelles with those from a Centaur-class ship, widened the prow a bit, and replaced some of the general purpose equipment on the ship with more military-minded things such as reinforced armor and shields. But at the end of the day, the ship was still recognizable as a Soyuz-class light cruiser.

So, being the brutality and concequence loving EVE player I am, I have to ask. What happens when you lose a ship?

Its definitely not as cold and heartless as EVE is(I did love that). When you die you wait 10sec and then respawn no death penalty. PVP is set up like WoW arena matches.

I do wish there were more consequences for losing your ship. Since your character is sort of the hero of the story, always making it to the escape pod is fine-- but losing everything on the ship, including your bridge officers, might make it more interesting. Bridge officers are easily replaced, although developing them into powerful allies takes time. Keeping them alive is a good motivator to keep the ship in one piece, I think.

The devs said there will be harsher consequences for losing your ship in the live game as opposed to the beta.

I'll be getting this the day its out. Few days early, actually, head start for the win!

I heard that they were sort of screwing the pre-orders by not letting people use the special items you get for pre-ordering the game until the official release-- so you can't play as a Joined Trill until the 2nd (which is the largest thing, really... most of the other stuff is cosmetic, like being able to give your ship the NX registry prefix, or the Khaaaan! Emote)

Eight hours until the head start begins! I'm hoping that by the actual release, I'll have made it to Lieutenant Commander so I can have something better than the Soyuz, Miranda, or Centaur-class ship.

So its a single server like EVE? No RP Server?
Oh and can you actually interact with your ship in anyway? IE go somewhere that isent the bridge.
