Default Windows 7 issues

Recently got myself a copy of windows 7, along with a few other things for my computer. However, Windows will occasionally freeze and not respond in any way, no mouse movement, no nothing. It doesn't go away ever so I have to reboot. Not fun.

Several random things I've observed or now know about it:
It always freezes within less than 5 minutes of starting firefox. Internet explorer is fine.
It's not the harddrive. I've tried a fresh install on a new harddrive and the issue persists.
It's not heat. My computer ran fine before, and now that I've replaced the chassis it runs even cooler.

Here are my system specs (newegg links provided where possible):
Mobo:MSI 790FX-GD70
GPU: Nvidia 9600
CPU: AMD Phenom 3.2 Quad
RAM: Mushkin DDR3 1600
