If I wasn't replaying the Baldur's Gate series through again I'd definitely pick this up.

It looks very Mass Effecty, how similar is the gameplay? Is it as clunky?

More akin to Baldurs Gate than Mass Effect I think. I have not had any complaints about the game beyond the difficulty.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

You can spike the difficulty pretty well, I think-- on the harder settings, it gets quite hard.

I'm on my second playthrough, and it's a pretty different game this time through. I did a Human Warrior the first time, and this time, I'm an Elf Rogue, and while obviously the same basic story applies, the game itself has a very different feel, and there are different options and quests that open up based on who you are. Characters react to you differently, and if you consciously make different decisions than you did the first time through, the game really takes a different turn pretty quickly. It's pretty clear that the game's one of those you've got to play through maybe six times to see everything.

Sorry to butt in with something completely different, but this seems to be the best place to ask.

I have some problems with the downloadable content, namely the Warden's Keep and the Golem one. I'd appriciate any kind of hint/advice you can come up with. I love the game (even if the number part of the mechanincs could use some attention) and I really want to see Shale and have her in the party.
Heres what I did so far:

1, Installed the game (the free version, if you get my drift (just in case its an important detail)
2, Played lots
3, Installed patch 1.01b (and the means that allow the patch to work with the "free version")
4, Downloaded a couple extras in one pack (Golem, Warden's Keep, an amulet, a belt and a ring; again, the "free version")
4/A, Following the instructions, I installed the previously mentioned stuff
4/B, Started a new character so I could do it properly this time (spending skill points with mages is serious business, and I wanted to see Shale).
4/C, The items appeared (overpowered for a lvl 1 character, but who am I to argue? )
4/D, As I finish chatting with everyone in the camp right after cleaning up Lothering, I go to Sulcher's Pass to get to Honnleath.
4/E, The guy is there and everything, but when I'm done talking with him, it says "Quest Completed". "WTFBBQ" I say, and go on.
4/F, Honnleath didn't appear on the map.
4/G, RAAAGEEEE
5, Download the Golem addin from the DA Wikia website.
6, Copy+paste it where it belongs
7/A, Try it again
7/B, Still not working
7/C, RAAAAAAAAAGGEEEEEEE
8, I uninstall the game except for settings and saved games
9, I reinstall the game
10, I copypaste the addins where they belong, plus the AddIns.xml (effectively same as before
11/A, Try it once more (didn't install the patch if you've noticed)
11/B, Honnleath still doesn't appear
11/C, Killing Spree
12, Decide to just find a character editor to fix my main mage and finish the game, while asking my fellow Heretics if they know anything.
13, I write this ridiculously long post.
14, I finish writing this post.

The fool, the coward, and the ignorant proclaim that the warp is a realm of unknowable peril and indescribable terror, that it is the hell of countless ancient myths and legends. This is a lie, told by those whose authority is based on lies, to keep the masses terrified of the unknown. The warp is limitless power and its secrets are infinite; it is knowledge and strength, life and death, and the untapped potential to make and remake worlds. It takes only the discipline and the will to shape it; those who lack that clarity of purpose are liable to be shaped by it instead.

This game is freaking awesome. It was made by the same company that made baulders gate in the first place.

Here is a little glitch ( on the xbox don't know about pc) to make going through the game a little easier. At Ostegar the mission from Duncon where he sends you off for the dark spawn blood and papers. Get the darkspawn blood take back to duncun and say you have just got the blood, go through the dialogue and you get a little xp. You can do this over and over again all the way up to the level cap of 25. So level up and kick arse.

Don't tell me you did that. I got to lvl 20 by the beginning of the battle in Denerim (the last bit if I'm not mistaken), and I didn't do a decent bit of the non-main quests. And that Raven respeccing mod is just awesome. You can keep the bonuses you got in the Fade (when you fought the Sloth Demon in the Mage Tower, remember?) and spend points wherever you like. My mage is killing everything now. Makes other classes look like placeholders in comparison.

I finished the game, one of the best right now, but a little short if you don't do all the origins. Also, as The Wraithlord said, the difficulty is very inegal, like
the boss after you free the princess, hit for 180 on my tank and Alistair got one-shotted.

SPOIL SPOIL SPOIL

However, I felt really bad for Flemeth and the last boss, got them first try, without Shale!

I definitively loved the game, third position behind Planescape Torment and The Witcher.

I have this on the 360 and I love it. Cannot wait for the expansion later this month. Which Origin Story did you like the most? I am torn between the human origin and the city elf origin.

Otherwise, it's certainly the best game I've played in an age. Unfortunately can't play it at the moment. But I'm thinking of it...
