Default AMD vs Intell?

I'll be getting a new computer soon just wondering which brand of processor you guys think is best? AMD or Intell.

The guy who is helping me design it says AMD because he likes to go for the underdog and because the ports are standadised. But what do you think?

AMD used to have the edge, but the Core 2 Quad is currently the best processor out there by far.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now. - Brother Vlad Carthas

>> Im generally an Amd/ati user but, the way things are going at the moment then Intel and Nvidia are the way to go. All of Intels latest chips are out-performing ati's significantly. So my herat says amd, but my " want the best?" brain says Intel. Im gonna upgrade my system shortly, new everything apart from my case, monitor and peripherals, and Im buying Intel and Nvidia for above reasons. Hope I helped mate.

I build all my systems using AMD Dual Cores. You can get a 4400 X2 for really cheapo and it is a good chip. If you are looking at spending more you can even get into a lower series FX chip. Remember to invest in at least 2 gigs of decent RAM (Cosair, Kingston, etc) if you are planning on doing any real gaming on it. The newer games are starting to use over a gig of ram for the game alone now.

I prefer Intel but that is just me. Personally I find that the Quad Core chips they make are superior to AMD at the moment. That can change in the future but it seems to be the case currently.

one thing I want is the ability to split my fire everywhere, it makes no sense that a squad of 10 guard or marines or whatever all have to fire at 1 target with everything, is the guy with the lascannon not smart enough to realize maybe he would be better off firing at the massive tank looming overhead instead of the little man no bigger than a squat running at him, or is that far too complex for the 10yr olds?

all I can tell you is my experience wth a C2D that comes stock at 2.13gHZ
with AC thermal paste and a $20 Artic Cooler Pro CPU fan I've gotten mine up to 3.0gHZ and it still boots at roughly 45 celcius.
Plus, I'm not sure if they have them yet but about 6 months ago intel was the only manufacturer providing a shared L2 cache on their chips, which offers an impressive performance boost in demanding applications.
