Default Galus Reviews: Armored Core For Answer

Here we are with the latest (13th) installment in the Armored Core series. The series itself has attracted a small but devout cult following over the past decade, and since I have been playing since Armored Core on the Playstation, I feel that I am qualified to adequately review the newest game in one of my favorite serieses of all time.

Gameplay
First of all, I'd like to start off by saying that THIS GAME IS FUCKING HARD. For those of you that were used to the way AC4 played, this game will kick your ass. You need to adapt very quickly to the ungodly speed this game plays at, even in single player.
That having been said, I really like the direction that the series is heading in. One of the series' largest problems has always been the story. Armored Core has always written by a chimpanzee that's been slapped in the face with the stupid-belt a healthy number of times and then tied to a chair and told to pound its head on a typewriter for a few minutes. I wonder how that chimpanzee is these days. AC:FA improves upon this, however; the story is actually slightly engaging, and may draw the player in depending on the player's willing suspension of "I just want the fucking parts."
For those of you who can adapt to the new and frightening speed that AC:FA plays at, you will love this game.

Customization
Ah, the signature aspect of the Armored Core series. Customization is at an all-time high in AC:FA; there's almost double the parts you could get in AC4 and tuning is slightly more in-depth than it used to be. The new design-storage system is a pain in the ass sometimes (especially if you sell one part of your design on accident and forget about it. like I did.) but overall AC:FA executes the "customization" bit very well.

Multiplayer
Sweet Chocolate Christ this game is fast. Did I mention it's fast? Cause it's very fast. If you spend even a second actually "walking" in multiplayer you will fucking die, no exceptions. One of the winning formulas seems to be spamming Quick Boost and Over Boost with missiles or dual rifles. In light of how rampant such loadouts are, I try not to think if AC:FA as a true "Armored Core" game, and instead as a "Armored Dual-Rifles/Missile Spambitch" game. That way, whenever I see some asshole using that loadout I'm not mad and/or surprised.

All in all, I give this game a B- Overall and a B on the Strictly Armored Core Scale.

I have a rendezvous with death, At some disputed barricade, it may be that he shall take my hand, and lead me into his dark land, and close my eyes and quench my breath, I have a rendezvous with death, and i to my pledged word am true, i shall not fail that rendezvous...

I'd definitely give it the Hero seal of approval.

Think its a brilliant game, the story is far more engaging than AC4 (in which you just felt like a spectator). Love the play style, though the latest patch has slowed it down noticeably (still very fast).

And Damn hard... took me a while to clear the game on Hard, but I've bagged all the offline Achievements now

Mulitplayer is funking awesome, just more hardcore than 4 was

Ya I played a few multiplayer matches yesterday...it's definitely hardcore, in the truest sense of the word. I've had to tweak my main design a fair number of times, unfortunately, but what kills you over and over again only makes you stronger. In Armored Core, at least. All in all, I like this game.

Good wprk on the review Galus. Might look for it now, work only got 2 copies per system in and the cultists got them.... But I like the fact that the speed makes it difficult. in AC4 parts of it seemd to try and be fast but were piss easy. I completed one level in 37 seconds without taking damage..... the challening gameplay might prove to be my attraction to this....

If you shit in one hand and wish in the other we all know which one will fill up faster.

And as I walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will have no fear For I am the scariest mother f*cker in that goddamned valley!

Hehe, you can take out the AF the game is named after in 7 seconds (takes a bit of perfection though)

I could too but I wanted to play with it first I remember the level where you have to fall down for ages then go into a chimney I completed in no time at all....
