You can back up all game data and content.

Right click any game and choose "Backup game files" and it'll come up with the games you can backup. Then copy them to DVDs just to make sure, uninstall Steam, then import them back in.

I always use this when reformatting, like I do every other month or so.

Ah- it could have helped if I read that before uninstalling. I lost all my games, their maps and my saves. Thankfully I have the HLs on disk and still have the installers for my mods in the folders I downloaded them from, but I have to download the two I installed through Steam and I've lost saves and map downloads.

Haven't played a game yet, so I don't know if it's fixed the problem.

Hasn't worked

Unless anyone else has any ideas I'll have to put it down to my internet connection being dodgy, which I wouldn't know about I doubt I can do anything about.

OK, I've had a weird new development.

When opening the Source Mod 'Fortress Forever' (a remake of TFC) my internet connection is lost, and it's hard to reconnect. However when I eventually get into the game with internet connected I no longer get any secure connection failed.

To my knowledge I haven't changed anything, this just happened. Anyone know what's going on?

What kind of broadband are you using? landline based or 3G? that could be the problem..... Or it could just be a server fault or some routine maintenance that was overlooked....

If you shit in one hand and wish in the other we all know which one will fill up faster.

And as I walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will have no fear For I am the scariest mother f*cker in that goddamned valley!

I'm not sure if this is what you're after, but it says that I have 'ADSL' broadband.

A landline based then.... Well that's not your problem.... I don't use steam much so I'm not too familiar with it but It might just be a maintenance fault with it....

It's gone back to how it was now. With the secure connection failed it's worse now if I want to play for a long time, but if it's only for a short one it's improved.
