I liked it better when it was called the Phantom. At least then we all got a bunch of laughs out of itw.

The Phantom was very aptly named you have to agree

As for this... well, I doubt it'll live up to its promise in the next few years. Eventually it might be a possibility, but I think technology just can't handle it at the moment. Networks would definitely be strained anywhere there wasn't state-of-the-art network infrastructure, and crappy game play would result - I just think of all the problems I have playing people over the net, and then its only a tiny amount of data being streamed to you. Any lag would make a streamed system unplayable, rather than just difficult (as it is for normal games).

So, I'll wait and see, for places with excellent connections it might be workable, but for most of us we'll probably have to wait a few years before it becomes possible. At the moment, it's just an over hyped idea, and will probably become vaporware, but the idea behind it might become the standard in 5 or 10 years.

For the $50 or so they're apparently going to be asking per year, on top of the prohibitively expensive, fast, clean and stable connection you'll need, along with buying access to games seperately, (and the optional 'console' if not running it through a PC) you're going to be better off buying your own hardware and not relying on third-party servers that will dissapear the moment the company folds.

While it's a good idea in theory, cloud/distributed computing should be kept in professional environments. In this kind of idea, it's little more than a gimmick and more than sketchy sounding to me.

Wow, this sounds really interesting.

Still as has already been said it needs a good connection (in our area only a pretty rubbish one is possible) and could be expensive, and I prefer the idea of paying one-off for a console rather than a subscription fee.

Anyone else remember the, "Sega Channel?" It's like that, 'cept different.

Oh, don't worry. If you were to get it, you'd be either buying the console or renting it ON TOP of the subscription, and that's all before buying licences to play certain games seperately.

The main difference being a matter of gigabytes transferred, and that's before you take their intention of using Cloud hardware instead of a decent system client-side, hence the need for an obscene connection. The science is there, but the sugar coating it's getting is really undeserved.

I think it might but it'll be ages before people start buying them as it will be quite expensive when it comes out. Probably three years of existence before I get one, or whenever it comes down to a reasonable price (100-150).

This is more expensive and requires the use of extra hardware.
