Default 40k Mmo

OK i don't know if anybody posted something like this, but this would be a little blurting out thread thingy. i've recently read something about how bad the 40k mmo was in the release, that they just stopped the production. well i have some epic *fail* ideas for it (imo)

i'm going to TRY and relate to WaR (warhammer online: age of reckoning) as much as i can, with the melee dps, range dps, healer, and tank.

so let's get started with the good guys. i wouldn't want it to be called 'the forces of the imperium' because that would be SM, IG and inqusition. boring. we need the good factions, not massing emperor loving nabs. if anyone has any 'force' name ideas, hit me..i'll later edit the post.

The Forces of Good *temporary*

Space Marines
Melee DPS: Vanguard Veteran
Ranged DPS: SM Devastator
Tank: Assault Terminator
Healer: Apothecary
those could use a few changes..

Eldar
Melee DPS: Howling Banshee
Ranged DPS: Guardian
Tank: Striking Scorpion
Healer: Warlock
possible changes.

Tau
Melee DPS: Kroot Carnivore
Range DPS: Fire Warrior
Tank: Kroot Shaper
Healer: Ethereal
this was hard

this is all i have so far, some futuristic imaginative changes will have to be made. the pretend suggestion box is open.

instead of a chaplain, put an apothecary since they actually heal wounded space marines.

lol me? making a 40k mmo? the people that made WaR trashed the original for some reason (because of the shit factor i believe). i'm just saying that if they did make one, these are some suggestions i put up for the classes. if i were to make one, it would be full of whippy fail, i can tell you that much,

Mythic as far as I was aware had nothing to do with a 40K MMO, I think they considered it but didn't want to overstretch their resources.

However Virgil Games are making the 40K MMO backed by THQ, at the moment all we know is they are based in Texas, are made up of former MMO guys from other projects and in the lone interview one of the main Devolpers has said 'It would be a MMORPG not a shooter, and all the races that will matter to the 40K universe will be there.'

Aye I'm still trying to figure out what he means by that last bit as well, although my money would be on a even number of starter races, probably between four and six. No idea if they will do more than two factions though.

As to those picks you put up, aye some of that is possible. Although I have an inkling they won't be as WoW/WaR with the Tank/Healer mechanic, not sure if it fits 40K.

My main hope however is Virgil pops up at E3 this year with more detailed news, hopefully some shots.

yea, kinda what i meant..cuz i heard something about mythic planning one or something..

yea i also heard the name of virgil also..man. it will be one hell of a confusing thing to come up with, but if it works..it's a new age for warhammer.

tank/healer shouldn't be much of a problem honestly. for tank, just think of the more bulkier units in the TTG, and healers, just think of casters or support models. like space marines and apothecary, cleverly suggested by jester above.

Ok... that was a really good start! Here's my take on it:

Space Marines
Melee DPS: Vanguard Veteran
Ranged DPS: SM Devastator
Tank: Terminator (can either spec Assault or Dakka tanking)
Healer: Apothecary
(Everything here seems good except for the Tank, which I explained above. Should just be a regular Termie and then upgrade from there. Maybe even start as a Tac Marine and higher levels grant him Termie armor eventually. Because, honestly, even a Tac Marine in terms of fluffy and tabletop terms would make a kickass Tank, and starting as a Termie might be game breaking. Playtesting would figure that out.)

Eldar
Melee DPS: Howling Banshee
Ranged DPS: Guardian
Tank: Striking Scorpion or Wraith Guard
Healer: Warlock
(I've only suggested one thing here, being that I don't really know Eldar as well as I should, mainly because they're confusing as all hell with all the specialist crap they pull)

Tau
Melee DPS: Kroot Carnivore
Range DPS: Fire Warrior
Tank: Kroot Shaper
Healer: Ethereal
(on the Tau here, I think that while Kroot are kickass, they wouldn't scale properly with the other classes here. However, Tau don't have anything that would fit the two categories here.)


Ok, now onto the EEEEEEVVVILLLLLL!!!!!!:

Chaos Space Marines (of course)
Melee DPS: Khorne Berserker
Ranged DPS: Havoc
Tank: Aspiring Champion/Termie (same progression as I suggested for the SM tank)
Healer: Sorcerer

Necrons
Melee DPS: Flayed ones or Wraith
Ranged DPS: Warrior
Tank: Immortal
Healer: Lord

Orks
Melee DPS: Kommando
Ranged DPS: Flash Git or Lootas
Tank: Nob
Healer: Mad Dok

I have heard rumours that it will be a MMORTS which I would love. But it seems according to that interview it will be a MMORPG.

MMORPGs are a bit too common if you ask me. An idea for an MMORTS has been spinning round my brain for the past couple of days and this looks like a decent spot to plonk it.

This is sort of a MMORPG and RTS rolled into one. You start off by creating a character, choosing allegiance, etc. But then you create your own planet in the Imperium, your own craftworld, your own Tausept etc, etc. You then can manage your resources, build spaceports to trade with other planets, administratum buildings for upgrades for your world, and a lot of other stuff. You can raise Imperial Guard regiments, give 'em doctrines, you could raise Space Marine chapters, etc. Then you can fight for worlds, conquer them, exploit them, and raze them to the ground.

The class of your world matters as well. If you manage it like an agri world you'll make a lot of Imperial Credits, but you won't have a very high population and find it harder if your cut off from trade. If your Hive World, you'll have a lot of people but you not have the environment nor space to grow crops. If your a forge world, you'll be able to manufacture a ton of stuff, but food again is going to be hard to come by. If your a fortress world, you'll have loads of soldiers but it'll be hard to equip them all. Economics would play an important part.

At the moment I haven't really thought much about the war side (it'll be much bigger than the planet building side) but base building in the traditional RTS sense isn't in it (could never really work out the logic behind building a fortress in the middle of a battle). You select what units your taking on at the start of the battle, and then you, well, fight. As I said, haven't really thought this through yet.

So yeah, my most badly worded, yet slightly good, idea for a 40k MMO.
